Kaiba couldn't believe he'd managed to get roped into having another Christmas party. Mokuba had been haranguing him for weeks about the "lack of morale" in the office. Hmph, as if he didn't pay them enough. Whether or not they were satisfied with their lives had nothing to do with him. If they wanted better pay, or better atmosphere (whatever that ( Read more... )

Ah, Kaiba. Really, Pegasus hadn't known what to think when he received the invitation. Oh they were on business speaking terms, yes, but he couldn't fathom Seto Kaiba having a Christmas party. Of all people trying to spread cheer to the masses, who would picture Kaiba in the role of 'Santa'?

Naturally Pegasus had done his part to smile and seem pleasant. He was much more patient and much more practiced with the act than Kaiba. He was just hitting his stride, cradling a glass of wine, when he noticed Kaiba trying to make a break for it.

That gave him a more real smile. "Excuse me a moment," he dropped as he walked off, intent on catching up with the other man. Oh Pegasus had seen Kaiba pretending he hadn't seen him.
And there was absolutely no way he would let him get away with that.

"Kaiba~. There you are. I've been wondering when I would run into you."

Kaiba made a show of surprise. "Oh? I didn't realize that Mokuba had invited you." He placed undue emphasis on the name, just to let him know that had Kaiba been in charged of the guest list, this meeting would never have happened. Crossing his arms to avoid fidgeting, he gave the other man a look of disdain. Though at one point he'd actually had respect for the man who'd created the game that topped all others, once he'd met Pegasus, Kaiba lost all the childhood illusions he'd had.

Such was the fate of childhood dreams, no matter who you were. Pegasus' own were very nicely shattered too, though that came more with the death of the only woman he loved instead of a mere meeting.

Who didn't cast looks of disdain at him? Everyone knew of Pegasus' nature by now, his games and his tricks. Everyone knew he was something of an eccentric man to work with. None of that won him any pleasure from anyone.
So he's more than used to it. And more than used to Kaiba's shows of uncaring.

He laughed, brows raised. "Well then, remind me to thank the boy. I wouldn't have missed seeing your face for the world."

I'm so sorry it took so long. I got caught up in things. halfgodhalfking January 4 2011, 07:13:05 UTC
"I honestly can't say the same, now... if you'll excuse me, I was just leaving." He was damned if he was going to spend another minute in Pegasus' company. Turning quickly, he tried to slip between the table and the nearby group of people, an enormous feat, even for someone as thin as he was.
