[Anyone on the outskirts of Cherrygrove might bump into Hero and his Ponyta (named, of course, 'Pony') trying to train by fighting wild Pokemon. ...You do know that you're supposed to let the pokémon fight each other, yeah? They'll run away from just a po--person, but they seem... almost drawn to fight other pokémons.

Plus, ANYBODY would run away from you flailing like a goof like that.

...does your Ponyta know any moves? Cuz I don't think "flail" is a move a pokemon knows... and they gotta use the moves that the gear says they can, or else it doesn't work.
