WELL. Yeah, I've gotten a bit of that, too. Though my dad is strangely supportive and always asks if he can have the latest update. Weird. Other people though, want to know why I'm not working on a novel. I say, I am, it's just in the planning stages. Writing fanfic helps me improve my writing skills so that when my novel is really written, it will be much better. I mean, why not practice? Practice makes perfect.
And people who say negative, non-constructive stuff like that to me don't get to hear about my writing any more. (I'd like to say 'period, full stop, the end', but I'm never that hard nosed, I just wish I was. Mostly they'll only ever get the odd mention here and there and never any details on what I'm working on.)
Besides! Writing is fun, and writing for yourself is even more fun, and if you want to read and write about Kirk as a cowboy, or the Doctor saving civilizations from some alien you just made up with Captain Reynolds and the Serenity crew, then do it. BECAUSE it is AWESOME. (ESPECIALLY when there's porn.) ~_

I think that you are a very talented writer with an emphasis on the romance. Not an easy thing to write well in my opinion, and you have it so right it's scary.
I think you're an amazing writer and don't let others bring you down, even if they are family. I've had similar brushes with my folks regarding artwork so I do know how you feel. But it should be about what makes you happy/brings you joy. You're the reason why I ship McCoy/Chapel, because the Rough and Tumble series pretty much sealed the deal for me. Tell the mental naysayers, can you do better than this? If not, then go away.
PS. You also got me into Gone with the Wind after the first chapter of Blood on the Saddle. So you can tell them you're an inspiration for kids to read more as well
When I read "my immediate family found this journal" my brain just went BZUUH?! O_o Fanfic isn't something understood by many members in my family either, 'tis true. But your work is gold. I really love it, your style and characterisation is amazing. And if you do ever choose to write a book, we'll def read it!
Just so you know, I check this every day in the hopes of an update. You're an amazing writer, and your fic always brightens my day. That said I totally respect your freakout, because if my family ever stumbled onto any of my various online identities, I would probably lose my mind. But then again, my writing's nowhere near what yours is.
