Dean is gone again.
The screams and blood were the proof, and Sam saw it all-including the part where Dean's life just vanished. That was months ago, empty months of darkness where simply existing just felt like a lie.
It should have been Sam.
Dean would have wanted him to keep hunting, so Sam acts the world's savior with the weight of a wooden heart. He can't stop remembering what should've been, even now barely noticing the familiar knock at the door. He jumps up to answer it-
and wakes.
It is morning, another hopeless morning…
Dean is gone.
