Aristocracy is commonplace in my world, though there are perhaps one or two exceptions. The majority of villages are governed by either a noble or religious figurehead; he or she in turn reports to the aristo overseeing that particular district of land, and any important information is passed on to the throne ( Read more... )

This would not be the first time such a subject came up.

No, I would not say it was.

While some of the villagers would likely be more comfortable with the structure, there would be others who are not. With the unsteady population flow, let alone kidnappings, there will always be more factors to consider.

It would be better to have more organization amongst the villagers themselves, but there are many individuals here who would rather take care of their own than for the sake of the community.

Yes. Organization for organization's sake would hardly be productive, but for those who require that structure to feel safe, perhaps it is necessary.

My world's government left something very much to be desired, so I think you can understand that I am opposed to a very strict government here.

However, the nearly complete lack that we have is to our disadvantage. At minimum, there needs to be more organization than we do have, but not to a large degree. I do think something needs to exist that will make us feel far more like we are indeed one group of people rather than many groups based off what worlds we come from.

Of course, this place is unique since people can disappear so readily. Perhaps a ruling council would be more ideal if we wanted leadership. That way if one person goes missing, we aren't left in a bind, but we do have leadership.

Perhaps merely a ring of well-known and informed individuals. Such a system is nearly already in place, with Lady Raine and Sir Silverberg.

I imagine the title of mayor would be enough for such a small settlement as this.

People seem to be getting by just fine without one, so why bother? It'd probably be more trouble than it's worth.

Indeed, it would be quite troublesome. Both for those involved and those affected.

Exactly. Besides, that kind of power could go to some people's heads easily.

It would not be wise to choose a leader without great debate and discussion.

I'd rather not see anymore struggles for power and the oppression of the weak.

Oppression of the weak is what we suffer here, within this enclosure.

True...

But at least, even though I shouldn't think this way, at least, everyone is treated equally and made to suffer the same way.

Equality in oppression?

Yes, I suppose you are right.
