Meanwhile, back in Finland...

Reading news from Finland is pretty depressing at the moment. Hopefully the True Finns won't be able to cause *too much* damage thanks to the multi party system, but it's still all a bit scary and makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't really get it how they can be so opposed to immigration when there aren't even than many foreigners living in ( Read more... )

politics, finland, :(

I don't really follow the news... Has Finland voted for a fascist??

I'm scared the same thing will happen in France at the next presidential election. Labour hasn't got a clue what it's doing and my sister's told me that current ministers keep making racist comments and no one really takes notice. The fascist party did well at recent local elections... It's always the same, when times are tough people get scared of their own shadow and vote for the biggest bully in the playground. It makes me sick with fear and disgust!

Well, out of the 200 available seats in the parliament, 'True Finns' (they're a bit like the BNP or UKIP) now have 39 seats (up from 5 seats they had before). They are the third biggest party now, the two parties bigger than them only have a few more seats each. There's a little bit about it on the BBC website. It sickens me that they could well end up in the government (along with the biggest party, but still..).

I do hope people in France will have more sense.. doesn't seem that likely, then, does it? :( It disgusts me, and how are politicians like this supposed to represent their country?! I had a little chat online with my sister yesterday when they were still counting the votes, she said she wished she hadn't checked the news because it was all so scary, and I have to agree with her.

Urgh... That's sickening :/. And I think it must be happening all over Europe. It'll be "interesting" to see what the Scottish elections throw up.

On a happier note: thank you for the BEAUTIFUL wedding invitation!! I love the drawing of the 2 of you at the back, well done Outi! We're looking at travel options and I'll let you know soon if we'll be able to come :).

Plan A of running off in July to live there will have to be put on hold then =p

everyone looked so white and Finnish
I've been mistaken several times including Teds for being Finnish... Teds says it's because of my round face lol

It's funny anti-feminist when Finland was the first country to give women voting rights o_O'

*BIGsigh*
I hate these kind of politics.

:/

I never knew a typical Finn had a round face?! O_o

This party isn't too big on women's rights. I was talking to mum yesterday and she was quite bemused about this female candidate for 'True Finns' who had apparently said that the women in the party get on really well and have great team spirit - and the leader of the party doesn't value women too highly and thinks they should just stay at home and serve their husbands. In this one article I read earlier today it said that these idiots don't think immigration is the answer to the population decline in Finland, instead they think women should give up their studies and stay at home and have more children! WHAT?!? These people make me want to puke :S So much for equality between sexes then. :/

Well that's teds opinion lol

Wooow.... So women of Finland have to be condemmed to the household and become baby-machines? =S

Along with the other countries with the rise of fascists the modern world is set to go backwards for the rights of women =( This is depressing.
