Torchwood: Miracle Day

I watched the first episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day a couple of days ago. I had been really excited about it but found it rather disappointing.

This episode just didn't feel like Torchwood at all anymore. For most of the episode it felt like I was watching some American hospital/crime show that had minor elements of sci-fi in it. The whole thing was way too *American*, which didn't impress me as part of the charm about this show for me has always been the fact that it's been set in Wales, and Cardiff has sort of felt like another character in the show. Not so anymore. :( It just doesn't feel right. Also, I'm hoping that Captain Jack is going to be in the future episodes a lot more than in this one. I kept missing him in this first episode. I'm not entirely convinced how Torchwood can work with just Jack and Gwen, either. At least the previous mini series still had Ianto in it. One of my favourite parts in this new episode was Jack covering as a CIA agent and calling himself Owen Harper. ...although it would've been so much better if he had called himself Ianto Jones (but then my heart would've broken.. ;().

I'm still going to watch the rest of the series but like I said, I'm not impressed and I doubt whether the show's going to pick up from the start. I'm not the only one thinking like this, either; yesterday I went for a meal with Matt's family to celebrate Jonathan's graduation from university. His friend Marianne was there with us and we talked a bit about Torchwood as well. She was disappointed with the first episode, too, and also thought it was too American. ..and we are not impressed that the episodes air earlier in the US than in the UK. I thought it was supposed to be a British series?!?!
