When I was little, my older sisters' friends fawned over my long eyelashes.  It was pretty nice, but not a fair trade for a lifetime of Eyelash Eye ( Read more... )

I pull mine out when I'm in the shower. Not YANK them out or anything, but sort of give them a little tug while the pores are all open from the steam. It's a little disconcerting, seeing 20 little lashes on my fingers, but it beats having them wind up in my eyes that day or a day later. I have contact lenses, man, that hurts.

i thank god that i don't have contacts. i couldn't deal with both. i'm already more comfortable prodding my sockets than most contact-wearers.

i will try your shower-plucking. i thank ye.

Not that I have the impression at all that you're a prissy sort of guy, but I wonder if using an eyelash curler might help keep them lifted up and out of your orbital sockets? Or what if you brushed a little vaseline through them?

It seems like the eyelash curler would best accomplish what tuckova suggests, pulling out the loose lashes before they fall out. I might try it if I get really desperate, but honestly, the very thought frightens me. Those things look like S&M toys.

brush vaseline through them? is that a thing that is done? holy mackerel. i though leg-shaving was the worst thing ladies had to do to live up to the modern, arbitrary standard of femininity. if i brush them with vaseline, and then the fall out and land in my eye, won't i get vaseline in my eye? yikes.

Could something slathered in vaseline fall anywhere? Wouldn't it just stick to the other vaseline-slathered lashes? You're right. Yikes.

But I do remember in junior high (lo these many years ago) before we were allowed "real" makeup that we brushed our lashes with vaseline because it did make them stand up and be noticed. Of course rubbing the eyes would then be out of the question.
