Okay ..how do I say this...

Melissa and I have been talking (post-packing) tonight on regrett, and she asked me if there was anything in my life I really regretted, to which I replied....

not really...

the ensuing discussion led us to, of all topics, the ability to deduce something based on what we know from not experiencing it.... and in this ( Read more... )

Why blindfolded and paralyzed? Why not just paralyzed? Wouldn't that be easier?

The idea is to experience a severe limitation of the body/senses ...and how that would affect the individual. Because I proposed that a state of paralization/blindness/deafness might force the body to address its other senses in a heightened manner, I thought putting the focus on blindness and paralization would best suite the experiment.

I don't know how familar you are with Magus Crowley's work, but he did something similar in teaching his students to learn to write with both hands... ie ...forcing the body to utilize parts of the brain/senses not commonly accessed.

In closing, I think by removing the ability to be mobile, in addition to removing sight, will force one to an extreme use of the other senses...

think of it as me teaching a lesson to myself.

the real issue at play here is that both situations present a reduction of "standard" choices and a unique opportunity to develop new strategem to replace the old stratagem...
where-as drinking a coke before hand was as simple as picking it and raising it to your lips, in either case you have no fucking arms... (hell, in the latter case you have no lips)
no experience is inherently negative (but then, you know this right?) just a unique experience to test strategies, patterns and theories...

I went blind one day, and though it was interesting, I don't think it's a lengthy enough time period to truly share in experiece of a lifetime of blinding.
It doesn't allow for the other senses to atune themselves to their new state of being soley depended on, which again, changes the original perception.

You already have the wheel chairs?

yup. I've had a wheelchair at the house since my surgery..

You're probably right about the attunement ...but I still think it's worth a try. If anything, I think it'll be an interesting experience..
