Weekend: A Very Potter Plague

Aug 30, 2010 20:06

This story begins on a Wednesday night. Not that it really felt like a weekend, I suppose it technically was.

Wednesday night I realized I'd been drinking a lot of tea that day and my throat felt weird. Then as if this very thought gave birth to the plague itself my tonsils transformed into golf balls. That were on fire. I de-contaminated as best as I could so that if I was down for the count, a dirty bedroom wouldn't annoy me. And clean sheets are comforting! I settled into bed with tea and started reading Mark Reads Harry Potter.

I don't know why I always find myself reading Potter stuff when I'm sick. Maybe it's just a strong association. The first time I read any of the books was in 2001, in college, when I was struck down with exam-induced disease. Lemme tell you, never has reading with a high fever been so fun.

The next morning confirmed plague. I went into work anyways, to at least knock a few things out and by 11 I was shooed back out the door by co-workers. I went home and spent 36 of the next 48 hour sleeping. And gargling about a gallon of salt water. On Friday when I wasn't sleeping I was knitting to the end of the Gryfindor scarf. Saturday I woke up and, feeling better, went out to Seagrove for the day (I bought a very pretty and very large pitcher). I got home and promptly died on my feet, having overestimated my energy reserves. 12 more hours of sleeping later, I helped Amy with some costume bits. When she left I started weaving in ends of the scarf and watched Part 2 of A Very Potter Musical.

Tonight I'm finishing That Damn Shirt, wrangling all the bits for my Patty costume together to loan out, and maybe weaving in more ends.
