I would think that would more or less force each group to have its own MOL, since fighting is an event mainstay. I think it's a little odd and somewhat inconsistent in its logic, but it doesn't sound any alarms. Am I missing something?

In fact, I think the old rule was you had to have a seneschal and either a marshal or an A&S minister.
Of course, in the days of my roots, there wasn't anything like a formalized authorization system, either. The MOLs ran tourneys, but didn't do any other paperwork.

To tell you the truth, I'm one of the people who asked for this change. I had sent a note to William as Kingdom Seneschal and then Prince Jason.
The reasoning behind my request is based on Windmasters'. We've got 4 cantons all bunched up on one another, another 45 minutes down the road, and the Baronial organization on top of that. Every time a branch has to have an officer to do something, that's 6 people we have to find in Windmasters.
I couldn't find a reason why a canton couldn't borrow the baronial MOL for an event. I think we only had about 4 warranted MOL's in the entire Barony as it was. If you can import a marshal, why not the MOL as well?

The biggest worry from the mol point of view is that most mols become mols because their group needed one to hold events. Removing the requirement entirely meant removing the incentive.
Happy to talk about this more in person. Mostly I just wanted people to "peer up".
