Jade is, through some ectobiology magic, John's biological sister. But even if she wasn't they would be super close! They both have a kind of overly-optimistic and goody-two-shoes view of the world, and in general just like to goof off in similar ways. Jade is slightly older, so perhaps that is why she is less derpy than he is (most of the time). For most things that John needs help on, Jade'll be one of the first people he goes to. There has been a little bit of an adjustment to their relationship since his coming to Wonderland, thanks to them finally spending time together in person, and mostly this has revealed that their similarities can make them a bit competitive with one another!

Terezi is like Dave if he were female, grey, had horns, and couldn't see. Okay, so maybe the only thing that makes her particularly Dave-like is the coolness seeping from her every pore, but John can't help but make the connection. Plus, maybe they are dating??? He doesn't really know. Anyway, Terezi's kind of weird, but her passion for geeky roleplaying and dance parties is right up John's alley. Oh wait, she tried to kill him once, right? Okay he's slightly miffed about that, maybe? Uh. But maybe she can't help it, being a troll, and in a way he sort of deserved it. And plus, Karkat and Dave like her, so she's cool! And she hasn't tried to kill him here, outside that heavy papping incident, and that was more unpleasant than lethal. At least she liked her hopbeast and John could get a fresh pair of glasses pretty easily.

Dave is, basically, John's BFFE: Bro For Freaking Ever. Sure, Dave's cooler than John is, and in many ways more levelheaded and capable, but they still manage to hang out like it ain't no thang. John secretly wishes he could be a little cooler so he could be more like Dave, but most of Dave's suggestions to up his coolness level just don't feel right. And anyway, it's much more satisfying to be himself and prank Dave until he's weeping from humiliation (okay, not really) than it is to wear sunglasses at night. The downside of Dave's presence in Wonderland is he gets to see all the uncool things John does up close and personal, and considering he has a crush on a girl and an obnoxious mirror in life since coming to Wonderland, Dave's got plenty to laugh at.

Karkles is one of John's better troll-buddies, even if he has an odd way of showing it! Also he might've had a hate-crush on him at some point? In any case, John finds Karkat's "rage" pretty funny sometimes, and he can tell the guy is really much more decent and nice than he'd like people to know. Plus, his horns look like candycorns and someday John would like to lick them just to be sure.
