(Pokes her head in shyly)

Hi everyone! Newbie here, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I first started reading The Violinist of Hameln-Shchelkunchik then moved on to the original series and ended up marathoning the manga until 5am (and I only made it as far as volumes 19-37!) ^^;; Yes, I have a tendency to read things backwards... I was surprised ( Read more... )

Don't watch the anime! It's not worth your time. A lot of the VoH fandom is quite annoyed with what they did in the anime ( ... )

The anime looks pretty (it's by the same studio that did Rurouni Kenshin) but if that's the case then I'm going to steer clear of it. :x

I have been reading off of mangafox but it's a lot easier to read it on my computer since I don't have to wait for the page to load. *shot* Also, I would usually read the Chinese versions of manga because they're usually more complete, but in this case VoH and VoHS don't have Chinese publishers, which means I can't buy the series even if I want to. D: Now that's sad.

Honestly, I'd say give the anime a shot, just kow it will be NOTHING like the manga after the first four or so episodes, and that it didn't get a big budget.

But the anime is why I fell in love with VoH, and the manga is why I stayed in love with it. It's true they're different, but I don't know, I enjoyed both.

Man as for fanfics, this fandom has been pretty quiet on that respect. I wrote some years ago though IIRC they are all on FF.net

All the other sites I know of are dead :(

I think it's the prospect that the anime has an "unhappily ever after" ending that's keeping me from watching it (though I'm not sure what exactly happens in the ending). I'm a sucker for happy endings, so I donno...

Yeah, that's the bane of older series: it's hard to find fanworks for them because the sites are either gone or dead.

Like I said on DA, the anime is kind of soul crushing and it's not even the same series D:

Also I have all of the scans, I think they're on my external harddrive. I usually kept them open on this computer so they could seed but when I took it in for repairs I wiped a lot of the harddrive to clear up any spae issues so they could work on it... Umm.... I always forget to check Livejournal so contact me on DA about it mebbe? I probably can't upload it for you to mys erver (I can try?) but I might be able to drop box it to you

this is pu-sama from da, btw! so just note me about the scans :D those scanslations need to be fixed badly and some of the scans have been levled so much the tones are gone ^^; but its better than nothing if you don't have hard copies of the manga.

I actually uploaded this a couple weeks ago for a friend, so you're in luck! It's the entire original series.

Personally I am fond of the anime buuuut only in a "so bad it's hilarious" sort of way =x It's extremely low budget and they spent most of that on the music (which is beautiful). There are a lot of parts where the "animation" is just a still frame with a voiceover.

They cut out all the humour and made it SOUL CRUSHING ANGST ALL THE WAY THROUGH but I mean, it's got its own sort of charm. I'd only watch it after reading the manga, honestly, because then you can sit back and laugh at how bad everything is compared to it.

The 30 min movie, however, is a definite must see. Veoh has it.

oh yay, saving me the trouble of uploading it!

(and yes, about the movie! THE MOVIE IS FANTASTIC! )

and as far as i'm concerned the best partsof the anime are some of the designs in art style, collecting cels from it and the music- otherwise PSYCHOTIC RINA, PSYCHOTIC RAIEL, CHRONIC DEPRESSION FLUTE AND WTF HAMEL are kinda...so bad they're funny XD

omg psychotic raiel is my favourite tho

the best part of the anime is when he finally pulls his try-to-kill-Hamel crazy. I love it

hahahahaha yes!! That was teh defining moment of "you guys didn't even READ the original comic book, did you?"

though I still think one of my favorite Crazy Anime Raiel moments is:

"It's okay, Ha-chan! the demon that killed my parents had THREE horns! You only have one! =D"

*later that day*

"GKGDKJGJKGKLJFKJF HGHGA I'M GOING TO MURDER YOUR FACE, HAMEL"

That and Ocarina's hilarious exploding transformation from bird to human lol wtf, anime, wtf.

I've got no recs, I'm afraid, since I've hardly seen any VoH fics either.

The anime is...bad. Very bad. You might want to watch it just for the sheer badness factor of it and how very out of character everyone is. Not to mention that the character designs for some of them are different from the manga. (*cough*Oboe*cough*Chestra)

I was particularly amused by how the anime managed to end things in such a way that a lot of the next-gen characters in Shchelkunchik could not have existed because their parents probably never got together.

Well, everyone said their piece on the anime, so I'm just going to relate my experience with it ( ... )

Wow, um, that's really making me hesitate about watching the anime now O_O;; ...maybe I'll just stick with the movie (which seems to be getting more positive reviews). If I ever feel an overwhelming urge to see VoH animated I'll look up the Chinese subs, though somehow at this point I doubt it... >_>

I do write fanfiction (and draw fanart for that matter), but I just can't do crack, and 70% of VoH IS just crack! OTL Anything I might write will probably be short, serious toned vignettes/one shots.

The movie is good - not as good as the manga, though :P but it's true to the original's spirit.

Hamel's brand of humor is hard to convey in written form, and honestly, we get enough crack in the source material anyway. Short and serious is about all I can manage as well. I do have this piece here - hope you like it.
