...Besides, naming anything but a ghost Pokémon "Spirit" would be kind of weird.

--But--right--[she picks up the 'gear and points it at the Pikachu on her bed]--this is my Pikachu. She's kind of a handful sometimes, but she's no slouch when it comes to training. [She then points the 'gear at a Vulpix sleeping on a chair] This is my Vulpix, she's um...kind of spoiled.
[And--finally--Maka sets the 'gear down on the bed and holds a book up to the screen, showing a picture of a Lapras] And my Lapras is too big to bring out, but this is what Lapras look like. The picture looks a little scary, but she's the most gentle Pokémon I have.

Then again, the creatures back home that share their name with their whole species could speak and even they didn't come up with names for each other. Even when their whole village only had that one species.
