[Click! Surprise! There's Maka on the screen staring with intent concentration.

What's chewing on her brain?]

...I never got around to thinking of names for some of my Pokémon.

[That's silly. But it seems to be bothering her anyway as she turns back to look at her Pikachu sitting on her bed looking chipper as can be.]Okay, this may be weird, ( Read more... )

I admit that I had the same problem when I first got my pokemon.

I hope they're not picky, at least? That's been a pretty common problem with mine.

[The Pikachu behind her has a look of pride as she says this.]

I am sure they will like whatever you choose.

Though, I may not be the best person to help you. I had named one of my Pokemon after my father.

Oh, naming one of them after your father is perfectly fine. I wouldn't do that myself because--[her dad is a bum]--I want them to have names that are...well, just for them!

...Besides, naming anything but a ghost Pokémon "Spirit" would be kind of weird.

I must admit, I have had the same difficulty choosing names for my own Pokémon. Perhaps we can help each other?

[He sits in thought, pondering... but he seems a bit distracted, honestly. After a moment he speaks up again.] Would you show me your partners that need names? I'm unfamiliar with those three species, I'm afraid.

I hope I can help you out, sir.

--But--right--[she picks up the 'gear and points it at the Pikachu on her bed]--this is my Pikachu. She's kind of a handful sometimes, but she's no slouch when it comes to training. [She then points the 'gear at a Vulpix sleeping on a chair] This is my Vulpix, she's um...kind of spoiled.

[And--finally--Maka sets the 'gear down on the bed and holds a book up to the screen, showing a picture of a Lapras] And my Lapras is too big to bring out, but this is what Lapras look like. The picture looks a little scary, but she's the most gentle Pokémon I have.

I see. They're all very lovely. [Yes, including the Lapras. He can easily imagine it looking more gentle than the picture shows.]

What types of names are you looking for? More human names, or something one might call their pets?

Mm...names that suit them, really, but also something they'd like. So I guess it's more like deciding on a name for a kid when they can actively approve or object!

You can name the Vulpix Gin! He's a person I know from home who's like a fox. He even looks like Vulpix a bit.

[Hello, allow her to go off topic forever.]

Gin...that's a Japanese word, isn't it?

Sort of? He wrote it Katakana so his name has no real meaning, truth be told.

[ That honestly felt like someone punched her in the stomach, however she doesn't visibly react to her panning of him ]

Huh. People do weird things with their names.

[...DERP.]

Ah, sorry! I'm not knocking it or anything.

Hehe--I'm not that good at thinking up cute names myself, I've just been naming them after people in books or mythology so far.

Maka would appreciate Maria's help very much!

[Yes, she did just copy her.]

Honestly, I haven't bothered naming my pokemon. They didn't seem to well... care or want one all that much.

Well, even if they don't, I give them names because it's...weird. Having an animal that shares a name with its whole species, I mean.

It'd be like just calling your dog "Dog" forever, you know?

I never thought of it like that.

Then again, the creatures back home that share their name with their whole species could speak and even they didn't come up with names for each other. Even when their whole village only had that one species.
