Found this viararelitslash (your name looked familiar, and it took me a while to realise that's because of because of lixia84

Anyway, I'm so glad I found it. What a lovely little piece - you've kept them in Grahame character but had a lot of fun too. The idea fits in so well with your challenge of xenophobia, and yet, it's different because it's about species rather than race. Your clever!
But it still has such human touches - Daddy Rat and Mummy Rat are so recognisable, everyone has, or knows, Auntys like that, but the best bit was Mole's warm, dry nose in the dark. You made my night! :)

Thank you. Am glad you liked it. :-) I was intending to do something with my usual pairing (see icon) but the word just didn't fit - however, a dear friend who knows I like Rat/Mole drew me a picture for Christmas, so it now sits on the wall above my computer, and I looked up at it at that moment and then...well, this came out 15 minutes later.

(Look! I'm actually getting off my arse and reviewing! Shock! LOL)

I really like this. It's amazing how you capture the whole ,'it's not that we don't like blah blah blah. We have no problem with it, but...' and it's always that 'but' that shows the prejudice so well and I think you've done a really great job with such a hard word! I like it alot, even though I haven't read enough of Wind in the Willows. *looks suitably ashamed*

Sorry for the late response! Late essay needed doing, and I'd run out of net credit.

Thanks for the comments! :-) I first took one look at the word and thought "...the hell?" then looked up at the darling picture, and it all made sense.

To be honest...I've not actually *finished* reading Wind in the Willows...and I'm writing fic for it!

(I'm a little disturbed that you're writing Wind in the Willows slash? Oh, my childhood... ;))

But more seriously, I dropped by to unprofessionally thank you for picking the fic challenge you did. I practically squeed aloud. XD you rock & I look forward to the fic, I'm just commenting here- hope you don't mind- so that I look all professional and aloof in myriadwords. ;)

(I almost threw the book across the room the first time Rat/Mole came to mind...)

I don't mind at all, and understand why my journal is probably the better forum to squee in. ;-)

Now I just hope I can do it justice...*feels the pressure, sweatdrops*

(It's not that the pairing, intellectually, doesn't work.. it's just...)

Heh, thanks. No pressure! I'm sure you'll do well- I would totally have enjoyed the Rat/Mole if it wasn't for my brain exploding the first time round. *grinning*

Aww, thank you for reading and commenting!

Yes, that might not be good for your grandfather to find this...I almost threw my copy of Wind in the Willows across the room when the idea first came to me, so I know the feeling.

Haven't read any of Redwall, unfortunately, or Welkin Weasels (though I do have a copy of Redwall recently bought to read one day). Will get to them one day...*eyes the pile of books piling a mile high* Though the existence of slash is always a good push to make me read something.

I have actually put down to do Mole/Rat fic for 30_romances, so I'll be trying to write more of them in the coming months, if you're interested.

There's a chance we might have the Welking Weasels - being in Australia we do take a little from the US and a little from the UK, so I think I'll go have a look for them - Maudlin and Scruff sound all too adorable from your brief description.

I have friends who'd like to see Justin from 'Secret of NIMH' (aI say that as opposed to the book, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, which I haven't read) with someone in a slashy context, but just who is more difficult to pin-point...but it would be so good.

Maybe there ought to be a 'cute furry animals' slashy comm in general...I am going to hell for thinking that, I know it!
