HE LIVES! Hope the delta is agreeing with you and the cats. I'm messin' with Texas while paying off some karmic debt (must'a been a RepubliChristian in a former life). Otherwise, the beer is cold and the young minds are malleable.
Yes, I'm finding that teaching English majors in the Delta is a bit like preaching to the already converted. They laugh at my jokes. Hell, they even recognize a joke when they hear one.
But I also teach 101. I'll always have to teach entering freshmen and non-majors, too. Very important to cultivate those outside my own congregation.
I'm at "the OTHER liberal Texas university" and the students here are also receptive skeptics. Amazing what a difference 6 years, rampant graft, recurring incompetence, record-breaking Big Oil profits as gas prices surge, a war-turned-quagmire-turned-occupation, and botched hurricane relief will do for anyone not drinking the GOP kool-aid. Sure, its hotter'n Hades but inquisitive students make the sweaty hike and course preps worth it.
hey i saw you had listed me as a friend and i was just wondering who you were. :) if you want to remain anonymous cool, but i've gathered you work for my old school. how do you like it? lets chat. erin
It's pretty good. I just wish they paid us in a timely manner. Here it is near mid-term and no pay yet. But Sept 29th will rectify the problem . . . a little.
