I always feel that things function like a balance, you add weight to one side, it will drop downwards,if you add equal weights to the other side, it will balance... But if you were to try to be a smartass and add alot to one side... it will cause chaos :__ ( Read more... )

I think it applies to all situations.
Everybody works on a "Yang" and "Yin" principle or Physics if you like to call it. :)
Doesn't have to be coupleship, can be any relationship.

Personally, I think it is doesn't make sense to say that we *shouldn't* expect things from people. Expecting things is what characterizes independently living humans. It is a sign that the brain is working. That's how we cope with the challenges of living: we anticipate and make projections of the future. E.g. farmers work hard and expect their crops to grow so they can feed their families.

So for a thing that humans fundamentally do, i.e. there is no such case that we don't do the thing, it doesn't make sense to say that we *shouldn't* do it.

The sensible version of what might be meant is, mutual expectations *shouldn't* always be compatible. In cases of incompatible expectations, some kind of adaptation/disengagement naturally results over time.
