Congrats on the job offer. This is very exciting stuff!! Hope you get a raise...
But I was wondering if you could have Shauna give me a call tonight. If not, I'll call you guys (that's if you forget). I have some news from Grad school that I just wanna talk to her about.
now you'll get paid to play solitaire!bocephusjonezMarch 31 2005, 16:24:00 UTC
Dude, Congratulations! Finding a job in New York State is hard enough, much less trying to get a decent paying one. Be sure to wear your Incubus Chainmail of Haggling for the phone call. You get +4 persuasion.
Take it from me, though. You can live on less than you're "worth". I'm sitting pretty with my neck barely above the poverty line. (17k) Hell, it's pigeon under glass almost every night out here!!
I'm also sure that once your THESIS is done, you might have more influence over getting promoted to Super Lab Manager.
Pulling in 30k, you can live like a Baron in NY. Especially in the backwoods area of the state (you know, the majority of it).
Just limit Shauna to 5 bags of lemons a month and have a cornbread wedding cake.
Seriously though, Congratulations. Commence to wheelin' and dealin'.
Maybe if not a salary increase, you can get free wrasslin' tickets.
Looks like Remet might get to somewhere around $33,000 for me, with potential for raises as my skills and experience in investment casting grows. Sounds like a fancy way of saying, "shut up and eat your fish heads."
Chuck from Remet proceeded to give me examples of others in the company and their pay histories.
a) guy from Alfred with similar lack of experience in investment casting. Started at something less than what I'm making (are we adjusting for inflation?). Maybe doubled his salary after 12 years
b) guy with 12 years or so investment casting experience started at "the kinds of numbers you were talking about," meaning in the 40's. He too progressed in salary, but not as rapidly as guy A.
Brian, what do you think they'd pay a CE with 12 years relevant experience? I'd say maybe up to 100 g's, depending upon the industry. Something tells me Remet underpays their workers. This probably will turn out to be a (semi) short-term position for me. There's no way I'm going to sit around while they pay me half what I'm worth
( ... )
Depends on what you mean by 'relevent' experience. In a factory its usually the most underpaid employees (i.e. the operators and maintenance guys) that know the most about what's really going on down on the floor
