I was going to try to catch up on Snowflake this weekend, and also RL posts, but this is neither of those things XD This is my Secret Santa squee post and also Hugo drama, because I didn't want to delay either too much:
I got an AMAZING package from
rinkafushi, my Santa in
cafemassolit's annual Gift Exchange, after a somewhat nervous fortnight it spent in US customs

I don't even know all of the Haribo stuff.

re: Haribo stuff, rinkafushi explained she went to their flagship store which sells Haribo things that are on sale in other countries but not Germany, and that's where the e.g. larva things come from :) Certainly more variety of Haribo products than we get out here!

I'm SO GLAD the package made it after all!! I barely ever send packages proper, so I was more confident than usual thinking hey, it's insured and tracked proper! The fact that it arrived in bad state is doubly annoying :/ But I'm glad the honey jars survived, everything else was fairly resilient.
I was also quite smug of having found your Maisstäbchen xD As for the Haribo, "Saure Gurken" is another term for "Essigurken", so pickles :) I hadn't seen these either - the most popular sour Haribo candy from my childhood days are sour fries. I can't tell you why random foodstuffs get the sour candy treatment here XD ( ... )

I think the damage to the parcel must've happened close to the destination, because everything inside was in good shape, and I think they would've probably at least taped it up / put it in a bag if it had happened earlier in the journey -- I've had that happen before. So, we can blame SFO or something -- they've trashed a suitcase of ours, and in general are pretty rough with stuff. But everything made it, so, whatever! :D
I was also quite smug of having found your Maisstäbchen xDJustifiably so! :D And, heh, I thought I recognized "gurken" being pickles (there's a similar word in Dutch, and also "gherkin" in English is related I guess, though I never actually call them gherkins). L was very puzzled -- but they don't taste like pickles, she said! I liked them a lot -- the texture is a lot denser than any gummy candy you find here, but I like it! (And huh at sour fries, too XD ( ... )
