CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Hikaru Hitachiin
Character journal:
hanbun_dakeFandom: Ouran High School Host Club (anime-verse)
Point of Canon: End of the series, not so soon after that he's still in that ridiculous get-up, but soon enough that his arm is still injured.
Tattoo number: 96096 (Kaoru's, backward.)
Appearance:
Except happier when he's around Kaoru. And yes, he'll be wearing that outfit.
Personality: Hikaru and his younger brother Kaoru are twins, and their personalities are very similar. Their parents were rarely home, and no one around them was truly able to distinguish the two. The twins became interchangeable, too similar for anyone to care which one was which, and this was helped by their worrying, making them seclude themselves and make it impossible for anyone to get into their world. They saw it as "us and them", and if "us" gained anyone else, that someone could hurt them.
Although Kaoru was mature about their isolation and began trying to open up to others, Hikaru continued to cling to the barrier, fearing that if it faded, Kaoru would grow apart from him. And although he understands Kaoru's breaking of their worldview, he still refuses to full accept others, thanks to the ever-present risk of Kaoru leaving him for his new friends. An irrational fear that he knows is irrational, but that he can't voice well, even to Kaoru.
The twins are both somewhat spoiled and childish, enjoy games, pranks and tricks, and often tease classmates, although Hikaru's way of playing is always just a bit rougher than Kaoru. He will occasionally forget when to stop and take things way too far before Kaoru has a chance to stop him, but his respect for his little brother's judgement means that if Kaoru says stop, he stops, no questions asked. When he's by himself, Hikaru is more short-tempered than Kaoru, and mostly plays video games and listens to music when he's idling. Hikaru can be calm while alone, but mostly gets uncomfortable and instinctively rude if Kaoru isn't nearby. He's more likely to deem someone as "beneath" himself and Kaoru, although he doesn't bug them if Kaoru doesn't want him to. He believes that if he has a problem, it's his own, but if Kaoru does, he has to help. That said, he rarely faces these problems, and instead tries to bottle up his worries and grumble about things until Kaoru magically fixes them. Mostly he pretends they don't exist to begin with. But when he wants to speak his mind, he speaks his mind without hesitation.
Hikaru is somewhat more childish than Kaoru. He knows that moving on from their us-and-them worldview is probably best, but doesn't want to because it means throwing away their childhood, and letting Kaoru leave the world where only the two of them exist, where Hikaru felt safest. He's sure that if they move on, they'll lose each other in some form or another. And Hikaru can't imagine life without Kaoru right next to him, so he tries his absolute hardest not to.
Kaoru has been with him through every important change in his life. That's why he can't allow their connection to fade; he believes he can't survive without his brother, and that going through something large without Kaoru for support would break him. It's a fear that he covers up by acting antisocial but really, his hostility toward others is out of worry that they will hurt Kaoru in some way, and leave him to fend for himself.
Powers/Abilities: Mad, magical fashionista skills. Minor rageball skills. The ability to trade places with his twin and frequently speak at the same time as him, saying the same thing. He can also speak Japanese and English, and some French.
History:
Can I just steal what Kaoru-mun wrote? If not I'll think of some way to paraphrase it. 8T
Journal sample: [There's some quiet cursing as Hikaru turns the video feed on. Doesn't take too long, it's basically a wierd phone. Soon the communicator is showing an annoyed Japanese boy with his ginger hair all ruffled up and his arm still in a sling (which is a little melodramatic, considering the fingers are tapping on his knee idly and clearly not in any pain anymore).]
What the... Who's stupid enough to kidnap me like this? You didn't even tie me up! Idiots! Am I supposed to be calling for help with this? Ooh, save me, the front door is unlocked!
[He glances out the window at this point. And then scowls. And runs to the window to check. And... that is not Japan out there.] Where... which country am I in!?
Kaoru! Haruhi! One of you answer, this is just sad! I want to go home!
Prose sample: So... he'd been asleep.
Hikaru had gone to bed before Kaoru. That had been his "acting apart from his twin" moment, that Kaoru should be damn proud of. And he'd been so tired, he'd just slept in his clothes. And when he woke up... where was he?
He shuffled through his pockets, trying to find his phone. If he could call Kaoru, he could figure out was going on and then he could go home. But instead, what he found was a device that seemed to allow broadcasts but not calls to any contacts he recognized. Hm, maybe as a last resort.
Hikaru moved around the room, investigating what little there was to investigate. Clearly, he was meant to live in this questionable apartment. Well, he wasn't taking that shit. But the door was probably locked wasn't it- nope. Huh. After investigating the other rooms of the apartment, he walked out of the building and into the town. Nope, none of this was familiar. It was all strange, foreign, and most notable for concern, void of Kaoru. What was even the point of talking to foreigners, if they wouldn't tell him where his twin was? But there was a last resort. With a grumble, Hikaru whipped the communicator out of his pocket and turned on the video feed.
Anything else: Not that I can think of.
