Last Saturday was awesome....went into the city with my friend Jim and saw Rent on Broadway.....after that, when we went to eat, Anthony Rapp who was in the original cast and in the movie was at the restaurant!! Also saw a friend from high school, a friend from Wagner and a recognizable celebrity on VH1...small world but still way too far away....I

This is funny - clearly, you went into NYC before the transit strike. You wouldn't be singing the praises of our city if you had to go through what we have to go through now just to get to work!

Believe me Eric, I would walk to work in the freezing cold with my pants around my ankles holding up a sign saying "Kick My Ass" as long as it meant being in NY again and not having to live at home.....sucks about the transit strike but I do think they should get more money....they make 60,000 but they have families.....I could live on 30,000 but Id have a roomate and not support any kids....60,000 doesnt even rent me an apartment in Manhattan, let alone Brooklyn in some areas if you have a family....most of these people commute from Queens or upper upper Bronx and far away Brooklyn or sometimes as far as CT and surrounding areas......it stinks but its a Union and I guess this is what the revolution gets ya....

I almost always root for the little guy, but I'm not rooting for the union in this one. Their demands are not realistic (a raise, sure, but retirement at age 50??), and they've virtually shut down NYC in the process. Unions are extremely important and I want them to survive; this union is acting recklessly and ruining it for others.

That said...you are so lucky you had your day of fun in NYC before this happened! I love hanging out in the city more than anything, but I don't think I'm going to have the energy to until this thing is settled, one way or the other.
