If you know what movie that quote is from, then you are awesome.  And if you're only into artsy fartsy movies, then you'll probably want to skip this LJ entry.  And if you pick on this movie here, don't be surprised if I delete your lame comment and then hunt you down and yank your drawers over your head.

Anyway, if you don't know what that quote is from, it's from the 1988 John Carpenter movie, They Live.

If you haven't seen this movie, it's basically about a drifter dude, Nada (wrestler Roddy Piper), who finds out that hostile aliens are living among us, brainwashing people via subliminal messages.  The aliens are also in cahoots with some humans and these humans are rewarded with money and power.  The catch is that the aliens look like humans....until you get some special sunglasses (or contact lenses) and can see them underneath their human disguise.  Nada puts on these sunglasses and is toadally shocked to see the aliens.  He tries to convince his friend, Frank (Keith David), to put on the goddamned sunglasses already to see what he's talking about and that leads to The Most Awesome Fight Ever:

I love this movie, but I originally bought the DVD for the fight scene alone, people.  I guess I'm not the only one who though that scene was memorable (I didn't know it had such a following - South Park spoofed it and I remember seeing that episode).  Also, from IMDB.com:

The fight between Nada (Roddy Piper) and Frank (Keith David) was only supposed to last 20 seconds, but Piper and David decided to fight it out for real, only faking the hits to the face and groin. They rehearsed the fight for three weeks. Carpenter was so impressed he kept the 5 minute and 20 second scene intact.

Even more trivia...  Shepard Fairey, the dude that was recently arrested for graffiti (who did that very famous "Hope" Barack Obama poster that I'm sure you've seen), took a number of slogans from this film for his graffiti ("Obey", "This Is Your God", etc.).

Anyway, I go through phases where I'll watch the same DVD over and over for a couple weeks and this has been the one.  In a weird and pointless coincidence, the star from this movie, Roddy Piper, was on Jimmy Kimmel's show this week in a re-run.  He still looks like he can chew bubblegum and kick ass.

I think that the aliens in this movie are seriously creepy.  And speaking of creepy, Meg Foster is also in this movie.  Anybody remember her?  She's that actor that has the really light eyes and was in a bunch of 80's movies.

Toadally unrelated here....these are two other movies that I've seen recently:

My Bloody Valentine 3D.  FUN!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.  Way better than the second one, which I thought basically sucked.  Enjoyed this one a lot.  (And did you know that the big lycan named Raze is the dude that thought up the whole Underworld idea?  He's a comic writer and has a degree in microbiology.)
