Doris Stokes was only 67 when she died! I always imagined she was well into her eighties, she certainly looked it, she just always seemed really old. 67's not very old at all, my mum's 67, Tim Curry's 61. Could it be wrinkles induced by smoking in the days when everyone did it?

Otherwise we have to put it down to knocking back the spirits over exposure to ectoplasm.

Possibly but my mum smoked for years too and looks ok for her age. Maybe it's just a bad photo.

I always thought she was really old too. I think that is a bad picture, she looks like a typical white haired grandma in that one.

Yes, like my grandparents she's one of those people who was always just old, a generic old person. It amuses me that she was born in Grantham, where I was born (once voted the most boring town in England).

Thora Hird was ancient. I love the name Gordon Wharmby - sounds so Yorkshire!
