iPhone encryption and your passcode

I've been following this at work a bit and Bruce Schneier recently linked to it on his blog.  This post is mostly my own notes about how the passcode on my phone protects some of my data and how well it does that.  But I've tried to write it up so it's reasonably consumable.

Hmm. I don't bother even setting the passcode, figuring that there's nothing much that anyone else would care about on my iPhone or iPad. But if there was, I might be concerned...

I think most of my friends are the same way. I use my phone to track notes, store passwords (I'm using eWallet for this), and even to share some documents with my PC (using Docs To Go). I've been using PDAs for quite a few years and all of this has moved between phones over the last 6 or more years. I know I'm not the normal case among my friends, though. :-)
