Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here.
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light,
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.For the longest time I thought that poem was by Mark Twain. He used it as an epitaph on his daughter's tombstone. Didn't realize till I was looking for it one time to say at a funeral that ( Read more... )

Well... technically, it was Twain's work. Willow and Wattle was a book work and the last lines of Richardson's work were copyright similar however:

Warm summer sun, shine friendly here
Warm western wind, blow kindly here;
Green sod above, rest light, rest light,
Good-night, Annette!
Sweetheart, good-night!

Annette was a pretty poem.

I apologize to jump in, I enjoy literature conversation.

It's quite alright, normally I enjoy such conversations as well.

I've just always felt it a beautiful little poem and for this instance fitting.

Have you read the rest of willow and Watte? It's quite good. I prefer Twain's short story works to most of his other things. I spent quite a bit of my Sophomore year with The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg.
