The Character
Name: Abigail Eddings (generally goes by Abby)
Age/Birthdate: 20/November 9, 1990
Species: Angel
*Type: Angel of Healing
Canon: Rift
Played By: Katie Leclerc
Appearance: Abby is small (just under five and a half feet tall), with red hair and light eyes. She often looks as though she's at least a little ill, even when she's acting perfectly healthy, and with good reason: She usually is a little bit sick. She is almost always wearing long sleeves or a jacket, long pants, and thick gloves, no matter the weather, though they will often come off just long enough to take at least a little of a sick or hurting person's pain away. Her wings, when extended, are about nine feet in length and mottled shades of dark brown and dark red (they almost look blood-streaked, in fact), and when pulled in take the form of two scars that extended from the tops of her shoulder blades to her waist, scars that always looks fairly recent. However, people (except for family, on occasion) rarely see either one, as her back is rarely visible.
Personality: Abby wants to take care of everybody. A healer by nature as well as by Calling, she has trouble ignoring those in pain or in need. She's less motherly about the way she takes care of people than she is sisterly: She will occasionally tease you, be very immature with the people she's close to, and probably need you quite a bit herself, but if you need her or even just want her, she will not let you down come hell or high water. She does need people to lean on herself; she likes having a community around her, and tends to move people from acquaintance to friend to trusted very quickly if she likes them and they'll let her. She does her best thinking when talking out loud to someone she trusts and it takes people to drag her out of a bad mood or a sad moment. The moods and problems of the people she surrounds herself with do affect her, and if people she knows are having a hard time, Abby will let it get to her, even as she does everything she can to help. In short, she's very much a people person.
Abby's still growing up in a lot of ways, a fact complicated by the way that the family treats her. She isn't the youngest member of the Eddings family, but she is one of the younger ones, and with her Calling making her physically weak, Abby has always been one of the babies of the family. She is a little sheltered, although since coming to Chicago she's learned a lot about the real world. Still, it's hard for her to see a problem and truly believe there is no way to fix it. Physically, she is a pushover; she has some very basic knowledge of self-defense just in case, but she's never had to put it into practice and being physically weak, it's unlikely she would do well against an attacker. Emotionally, she is just as easy to get to; when Abby hurts, she hurts deeply, and if you know the right buttons to press, it's not hard to hurt her badly.
Abby's sense of morality is just a little bit skewed, as you'd imagine someone from a crime family of angels to be. She would never hurt anybody physically, and she would never hurt anyone on purpose emotionally, but she doesn't always think about consequences of her actions, for herself or other people. Little crimes are always fine, and big crimes are exciting, and she doesn't really consider the people being stolen from. Abby herself is a car thief, and she doesn't stop to consider who she's leaving stranded. On the other hand, she can occasionally be more generous than is advisable; she will make time for others and not leave herself time to study or even attend classes, she will heal people of even minor ills and pains even when she's already on the verge of collapse, and she will give you her last dollar if you're close enough to her or your sad story is convincing enough.
History: Abby had a very pleasant childhood. Born to an Angel of Knowledge from the Eddings family, a criminal family of mostly angels, and a Muse that had been all but adopted into the family anyway, she spent most of her childhood bouncing around from family member to family member with her twin brother and her mother, picking up traditional schooling, the family business, and quite a bit more along the way. A few days before they turned sixteen, she and her brother were brought back to New York to wait and see if they got their wings, as they obviously had not taken after their father and older sister. Both did; her twin became an Angel of Knowledge, one whose Calling was directed towards cars. Abby became an Angel of Healing.
Along the next few years, she did her best to learn to control her Calling, or at least exert self-control over herself and not heal every sick or hurting person she came across. The second failed spectacularly, and she's spent much of the past five years ill, and also getting scolded by the rest of the family, because of it. Also along the next few years, spurred on by her brother's Calling and the family business, she began stealing cars and bringing them to her brother to strip for parts. Though she does get some mild pains when she does this, as it's technically "bad", her pain tolerance has gotten so high and the pain is such a mild one that she barely notices it anymore.
At eighteen, Abby moved to Chicago to attend college, and since she and her twin prefer not to be separated, and also the family preferred Abby have people to keep an eye on her, he came along. Though they don't always spend time between semesters in Chicago, going to a lot of family gatherings or back home to visit their parents, they spend most of the year there.
