A Trekkie moment

I was thinking the other day. In Star Trek: TNG terms, Democrats think Republicans are Q. Powerful, selfish, intelligent, appalling. Republicans, of course, think Democrats are Deanna Troi. Girly, irritating, sensitive, appalling.

As for themselves, both parties think they're Captain Picard.

Not so much the "intelligent" part. More clever or cunning.

That's like saying creativity isn't a form of intelligence. Which is a colorable point of view, I suppose. I think the policy differences between the Right and the Left have more to do with valuing different things than intelligence.

I know the Left prides itself on its intelligence, but what it mainly appears to me to do is (to paraphrase G.K. Chesterton) to use its intelligence to find reasons to support its intuition. Intelligence is simply a part of its self-esteem, and it's not, particularly, for the Right. I know you think that that's because it can't be, but I disagree.

I wasn't suggesting that the Right are unintelligent. I was suggesting that the Left view of the Right doesn't include "intelligent."
