The thing about Torchwood...the thing that their newest employee, Doctor Smith, disliked the very most about Torchwood was...they had so, so much paperwork. He could, quite literally, feel himself age while he filled out miles of pointless paperwork ( Read more... )

Field missions. Well it was something that Rose tended to thrive on and expected instead of just sitting in an office with paperwork being bored to tears. There were days were it was fun and bearable but it still couldn't compare to these field missions. Even if her mum tended to disapprove. He didn't see why he couldn't be allowed to drive there. He could fly the TARDIS, he could drive an SUV. Really, all that needless paperwork about letting him just drive himself was...just that. Needless. He wouldn't get lost nearly as much if he were the one driving.

Incidentally, if there were less moments of absentmindedness and lost paperwork, he might be able to convince them to let him just do it more easily, but it was not a worthy trade-off. At all.

He brightened both at her suggestion that they might be close--even though he knew the difference between her 'optimistic' and 'confident' voice--and at her question. "Ooh! An Ood! That'd be brilliant. I wonder what they're like in this universe. Did I ever tell you, I went and visited their home planet! They're brilliant creatures, Ood."

Rose's grin brightened and her eyes lit up at his words wondering what that must've been like. "You visited there? Amazing!" she said taken in by his words and then wondering if he had been on his own then or with Donna. "So what was it like?"

The SUV turned a corner leading onto an endless dirt road that was covered with large pine trees from side to side but Rose paid no real attention to the surroundings nor the black smoke that was in the distance.
