Silence filled the silver convertible, both of them refusing to look at each other in the eye, afraid of breaking down in front of the other. The silence was unbearable, the truth heartbreakingly painful, this moment that they’re going through right now is pure torture.
Takako clasped her hands and bit her lips.
“Takako …”
“Don’t start.” Takako suppressed her emotions as she looked up at Jin, now her ex-boyfriend.
“I … I don’t have a choice.” Jin let out a weak whisper.
“We pretty much don’t have a choice, do we?” Takako simply answered. She looked away and took one deep breath before facing Jin once more. “I’ll go take a cab.”
“Let me send you home …”
“Please, no. It’s okay. I can go home by myself.”
That was what Takako had said but in truth, she needed time alone so that she wouldn’t break in front of Jin. She wouldn’t want him to see her in that state.
“Okay.” Jin nodded,
“Goodbye, Jin.” Takako whispered, brushing Jin’s hair for the very last time. Her eyes were full of love but at the same time, sad. To see such sadness in the beautiful brown orbs, simply breaks Jin’s heart.
“I love you.” Takako flashed him a smile, stepping out of the car.
“I love you too.” Jin whispered, watching his love disappear from his sight and from his … life.
-
Once inside his apartment, Jin threw his keys and bag to the floor, not caring where they landed. He slumped down on his bed as he lets out such an agony scream, gripping his bed sheets, head buried in them.
“Why …” Jin whispered. “WHY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
His heart hurt real badly, he had never experienced a break up that was this painful. It was unbearable.
“To hell with all of you!” Jin threw his pillows, hitting the walls. He started to turn into a frenzy state, letting everything out, his pain, his hurt, everything he had been hiding deep down inside.
“Why do I have to be an idol?”
He hated himself.
He had come to hate the name … Akanishi Jin, the idol everyone loves and the ‘A’ of popular group KAT-TUN. Sometimes he wished he wasn’t Akanishi Jin because right now, he’s living a life full of lies and one that he doesn’t belong to.
-
Takako smiled, and cried at the same time, looking through photos of Jin and her. The smile, the hug and kiss reflected on the photos would not happen again. The wonderful moments they shared were nothing but a memory now.
Thinking of their love hurts, the pain hits her right in the heart.
-
“Akanishi …”
Jin turned a deaf ear when he heard his manager calling him. Somehow that voice irritates him, it hurts his poor ear, damn it! He eventually looked up at that idiot and rolled his eyes at him, his expression expresses his true feelings.
“Akanishi, are you even listening to me?”
Jin glared at his manager hard and got up from the couch, heading straight towards the exit.
“Where are you going?” His manager shouted. “AKANISHI!”
“Restroom …” Jin muttered, not bothering to glance back at his fuming manager.
His hatred towards his management starts to grow. He was even asking himself why he was still staying in this hell. He hated to admit it but he knew the answer.
It was not the company that he was unable to be apart from …
It was KAT-TUN.
-
“Narita Airport, please.”
Takako said as soon as she entered the cab, flashing the driver a smile. She leaned onto the seat once the engine started, bringing her to the destination she desired. She turned her attention to the glass window and bit her lower lips, trying not to think of the matter anymore.
The reason for Takako leaving Tokyo and having a short vacation back at her hometown was to forget about everything that had happened recently. More importantly, she wanted to forget him, their love, everything that reminds her of him.
When Takako returns, she wanted to be able to say … “Ah, Akanishi Jin? That member of KAT-TUN …” rather than remembering the latter was her ex-boyfriend. The first choice was safe and doesn’t hurt at all unlike the other.
Takako gasped when the cab suddenly jerked forward, causing her to hit her head on the seat in front of her. Things happened ridiculously fast, her eyes widening when she realised what was happening. Before she knew it, she was met with darkness.
-
“Nakamaru, switch the channel! Why are you watching the news anyway?” Jin groaned. He was about to snatch the remote control from the oldest member when something stopped him.
“Ex-SPEED member, Uehara Takako, met an accident earlier this morning … on the way to the airport.”
Jin’s eyes widened in surprise as he sees the image of Takako on the screen, the wrecked photos of the once-had-been a Cab, he was too shock about the news, he couldn’t speak, couldn’t react to it at all.
“In critical condition …”
“What?” Jin let out a weak whisper, staring up onto the screen.
The other members looked at Jin; all had a worried expression on their faces.
“Jin?” Nakamaru called but received no response.
Jin clenched his fists, tears in his eyes as he dropped down on his knees.
The decision was mine so why must that happen to you? Why …
It should have been me instead.
-
Jin dash out of the dressing room without hesitation, the members didn’t do anything, simply letting him go because they understood his feelings. The management didn’t, his manager grabbed his wrist on time, demanding him to stay.
“I know you’re worried but you can’t go to the hospital, you’ll create a buzz if you go.”
“I’ll create a buzz?” Jin spat out in pure frustration. “I don’t give a damn! Let the newspapers or tabloids write whatever they want! I seriously am immune to anything they say or do to me, okay! I DON’T FUCKING CARE!”
“You don’t care if your career’s going down the drain just because of one small mistake you make?”
Jin gritted his teeth, and clenched his fist, trying his best to control his anger. “If your wife or children is in the verge of death, which one is more important, manager-san? Your career or the ones you care the most, someone that couldn’t be exchange with anything else in this world? Would you leave them alone just because you had to protect your career?”
His words seemed to have affected the manager, the older looking down for a moment.
“This is not about me. It’s about -”
“The only difference about the two of us is our career! Other than that, there’s no difference at all! Like you, I am a human too. I have something called feelings and emotions! What, do you think idols are supposed to be like robots, having to follow every order from the upper management? If being an idol meant I’m not allowed to feel, then I don’t feel the need to be a part of this cruel world.”
“Akanishi …”
“And one more thing, manager-san …” Jin’s eyes cluttered with tears, “… Uehara Takako is not a mistake. She never was and never will be my mistake.”
-
He didn’t care if he was given strange looks by others. All that matters was that he had to reach his desired destination. Jin threw away his pride when he was met with Takako’s family and other SPEED’s former members.
“How … how is Takako?”
“Takako survived the accident but she …” Takako’s mother was unable to continue her words, her palm covering her mouth as she cried. Her husband held her in his arms and answered Jin’s query instead, “She’s in a coma.”
Jin’s eyes widened. “Wha …”
He didn’t know how to react seriously. He was shocked. He was speechless. He was glad that Takako survived that accident but still …
“The doctor doesn’t know when Takako will wake up. There’s a possibility that she might never wake-“
“NO!” Jin burst out, his body leaning against the wall as he slid down. “No, Takako will wake up. She will. She has to …” Jin whispered, his hands clenched, hitting the floor hard.
“Akanishi-kun.”
“She can’t leave me.” Jin sobbed heavily, pouring out his emotions.
-
Jin’s heart hurt like a thorn, witnessing the image of Takako with tubes all over her, and an oxygen mask helping her breathe. He settles weakly on the chair next to the bed, his hand shaking as he reached for Takako’s hand.
“It wasn’t your fault at all so why … did you have to be the one who was punished? It’s not fair …” Jin bit his lower lip real hard, eyes misty. “It’s not us who should be punished and tortured. It should be them …”
“You look really peaceful sleeping like this but please … please wake up, okay?”
Jin held Takako’s hand tight, “I’ll wait for you forever and I promise that I’ll stay with you. I will never leave you again, baby.” Jin got up from his seat to place a kiss on Takako’s forehead. A painful smile formed on Jin’s face when he sees a tear fell from Takako’s closed eyes.
“You were listening to me, weren’t you?” Jin sat back on the chair, not letting go of Takako’s hand. “I’ll fulfil my promise so please wake up soon, okay? Don’t sleep too long ...”
Jin made the decision to stay and reunite with Takako,
This time no one … would be able to stop him because he’ll do whatever it takes to be with his love.
-
“What do you mean by that?” The manager let out a surprised gasp, shocked of what was being conveyed by Jin earlier.
“Exactly what I said, manager-san. If I am still forbidden to date Uehara Takako then I don’t see the point to stay. I will quit Johnny’s if I have to! Leave KAT-TUN and everything that I had worked hard for! Why? Because Uehara Takako is important to me, she is worth fighting for!”
“Akanishi, are you serious …?”
“What, do you think I’ll joke about this?” Jin replied incredulously.
“But Akanishi …”
“I’ve already talked to the other members and they supported my decision. Whether I’ll stay or leave Johnny’s, it will not be my decision, but the management. I for one will not leave Takako’s side, no matter what. I’m willing to forsake my idol status for her, because she’s my everything. She meant the world to me.”
Jin left the scene, leaving his manager with his mouth wide open, still in shock.
-
1 year later
Jin entered the elevator and pressed the button, the door closed shut. He crossed his arms as he waited for the elevator to bring him to his designated level, his cosy apartment. Jin let out a tired sigh once he reached his apartment’s door. It took him quite awhile to enter said apartment, having to search for the keys inside his bag.
“Tadaima.” Jin said to no one in particular as he entered, locking the door after him. He was about to bent down to untie his shoes when a pair of thin arms engulfed him into a hug.
“OKAERI!”
Jin was taken aback for a moment but relaxed when he realised who it was. A smile soon appeared on his face, washing his tiredness away as he embraces back the love of his life. “What are you doing here? I thought you said you couldn’t come?”
“Can’t I see my own boyfriend?” Takako looked up at Jin and pouted. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, more than you could ever imagine …” He teased.
“Really?”
“Hmm, really …” Jin whispered, pulling Takako closer and kissed her.
You choose your own destiny. It is after all your life.

A/N: I’ll leave to the readers’ imagination whether Jin stayed or left Johnny’s eventually to be with Takako. With the ending written that way, it could be interpreted in both ways so you decide. This is officially the 2nd AkaHara English fic, I guess? Ah, I wish someone other than me would write AkaHara English fics because seriously, reading your own writing isn’t fun. The excitement is gone, if you know what I mean. I had fun writing this one-shot though! Don’t worry!
