Do you apologize if someone bumps into you?

If you're Canadian, yes you do--or so the stereotype goes. I'm Canadian and I admit that the first thing I say if someone bumps into me is 'sorry' because my mother insisted on it when I was younger and now it's a habit. Also, I was at a car dealership the other day, and the dealer and I were kind of snarking and joking with each other, and I said "Sorry" for something stupid, like forgetting to tell him my apartment number when he was typing in my address. Then he said "sorry" for having to ask me to re-spell my name. He was like, "You know, I think 'sorry' is overused, since most people don't mean it." And I was like, "Yeah...I totally didn't mean it at all just then." And he goes, "Me neither."

I meant to comment on this sooner. Bad me.

I do, and if someone bumps into me I expect the same back, but well, A lot of the time that doesn't happen. (I take the TTC every day to school.)

I tend not to notice the rudeness until I try taking someone more vulnerable than myself on the TTC, like my mom or my young niece... then, I notice how badly they get treated. People don't care who they shove when they're in a rush, eh?
