“Out in the wild?”

“Yes.  You are no longer welcome here.”

“Here,” Caroline spoke softly to herself.  She looked around at the others for support, but found none.  She was banished.  Cursed.  Through.  A mockingbird no longer, now merely a bird to be ( Read more... )

I loved this. It's a great take on the topic, and so well-executed! I could see everything clearly in my head and I was so engrossed in Caroline (or should I say Echo?)'s story. This was just absolutely lovely.

So much! I was amazed at how you managed to phrase things said to Caroline in order to give her echoes back so much meaning; it was heartbreaking when she tried to approach the lion for the first time. It really shows how much thought you put into your work because those fine details really make all of the difference.

Thanks. I like trying to do alternate takes on old stories, but it is not my usual mode, so I am glad it worked this time.

What a neat combination of elements to create a myth of how Echo came to be (and how a different Narcissus veered off onto his own path of destruction)!

And so sad. It's tragic enough to be so misunderstood by a friend. To be cursed in a way that dooms her to be further misunderstood by everyone else is just heartbreaking.

I'm happy that her brother found her and brought her home, and that she was welcome there. Even if she was never the same as anyone else, or as who she used to be, she found happiness again in a new form.

Thanks. It is bittersweet, but hopefully provides a partial vision of light at the end of the tunnel, even if it is not (quite) where one was previously.
