A note on the icons though: Some of them are based on his Dissidia outfit which for the most part is the same BUT there are differences in accessories. His Dissidia outfit design is based on the Amano's artwork for the original game. In the RP, he's wearing his normal clothes :| As linked in picture :|
[Background] I have two versions. And I'm going to link them because both are long as the universe. But have some common stuff first:
Zidane's past had always been a mystery to him. He had wondered where he had come from, and though he had tried to figure this out for himself, he always came up empty. But like all main game characters - especially the ones with mysterious pasts like himself -- he winds up on a journey that leads to discovering who -- and what -- he really is.
But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. This is going to be pretty much the whole game in its entirety as Zidane is involved in 95% of everything that happens in the game, so for those who have yet to play this game (WHICH IS BLASPHEMOUS AND YOU NEED TO GET IT RIGHT NOW DAMMIT) MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD.
SOME GAME WORLD MECHANICS INFORMATION
Before the game starts, it should be noted that in Gaia, the world that FFIX is set in, there is something called the Mist. Monsters are created from the Mist and it's going to be a huge plot thing later on. Some other brief mentionings about the world of FFIX is that airships are the big things in terms of transportation. The kingdom of Lindblum is the most technologically advanced and the notion of the steam engine is only just coming out of the research at the beginning of the game (this will later be more developed). Otherwise, airships run on the Mist (another why Mist is important to note for later). Chocobos are the second most widely used means for transportation and Moogles are also actively present (there is a Moogle mail system called Mognet). There are other races other than humans, and most are actually humanoids (which is probably why no one ever questioned what the hell Vivi is). The notion of summoning and the eidolons are also important to note as they play a real key role in terms of the game plot.
For some brief background information on Zidane, it should be noted that he is already part of a group called Tantalus, and they run a theatre airship -- the Prima Vista. While they are a theatre troupe and will perform plays every now and then, they also live the life of bandits. And it's on this ship that the game starts with the opening scene of Zidane sliding down a pole and entering a room.
17 page short version 21 page game walkthrough [Personality]
Zidane is the complete opposite of the previous two Final Fantasy main characters. He is outgoing, easygoing, casual, cheerful, playful, flirtatious, optimistic, unpredictable, creative, adventure loving, romantic, and all around fun guy. He is also determined, responsible, at times serious, insightful, pretty smart and wise for someone his age, and encouraging to others. Most of all, he has a lot of courage and will do what he think is right no matter what it takes.
Due to his life as both an actor and a bandit/thief, Zidane doesn’t fear much. He’ll always consider him as being capable of going against the odds and handle anything that’s thrown at him. That isn’t to say he’s reckless, however. He just has a lot of self confidence and tries to share/spread his confidence to others. He doesn’t necessarily believe in rushing in and taking things out solo, but if he has to he will. This is particularly true when he feels as if it’s his own thing that he has to do. It’s not out of arrogance, just that sense of “This is what I’m being called to do, and every man has a time when he must do it” kind of thing.
He holds his friends and loved ones above himself and will always look out for them. While he can be a bit protective particularly over people he really cares about (ie, Garnet), he also trusts his friends that they can hold their own. For example, even though Vivi is at first a coward, Zidane believes the little black mage can do a lot more and that while he will always be there to give the kid advice, Zidane believes that every person has their own path they have to walk and should do all he can to walk it.
Zidane is not oblivious to the reality of life. After all he’s been through, he actually knows it probably better than anyone (well except maybe Vivi). Because of this, if it’s called for he can be unexpectedly serious. While he is more action oriented, he also thinks through a lot of things so there’s more of a balance. He will think of both the pros and cons of a situation and try to pick the best route that would work for the given problem.
This gives him a good leader-like quality. He will take command and bring people to their senses if they start to flail (like reminding Steiner of his duty). He is very supportive and encouraging, so a lot of people actually tend to look up to him. Due to his strength and courage, he will continue to lead his team onward, but he’s also not stupid. If things look too rough or just impossible, he will back down a bit and rethink things. But if things are tense, he will throw all caution to the wind and just go for it.
One last thing of note is that he is in love with the Princess Garnet. He constantly worries about her and will do anything in his power to protect and save her. He just usually tries to play it cool rather than honestly say his feelings to her.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Zidane has a lot of skills due to his profession. As a thief, he can easily sneak into places and even steal things right from under people’s noses. This also means that he is very athletic and agile. He’s apparently a pretty fast runner and can jump higher and farther than most. His reflexes are also quick, both physically and mentally.
As an actor, he can also perform and fall into a role fairly easily no matter what the part is. He can also recall up several lines of plays and even create stories on the fly. He’s pretty creative and uses that creativity to his advantage to get out of tight spots. He’ll use whatever he has available to him.
In terms of fighting, while Zidane isn’t exactly the strongest, he is still rather strong. His main weapons of choice are twin daggers/short swords and the thief sword. The thief sword is basically the two blades merged together at the handle to form a double blade that’s almost as tall as him. He attacks fast and is pretty acrobatic.
The notion of “Trance” is when a person feels a burst of emotion and start to, well, glow. Whenever Zidane goes into Trance, his appearance actually changes. Instead of clothing, pink fur is visible, and he has a new set of powerful skills. It only lasts for a brief period of time and it certain conditions have to be met for it to activate.
His can also use his prehensile tail whenever he needs to, such as using it to grab a bar to get out of a certain rusty knight’s reach.
And as mentioned in his Personality section, he is great at giving advice and support to those who need it.
Because he is a Genome, Zidane can also read the words of Terra. Except that's probably not going to be found here >_>;
[Affection] Zidane's the friendly type so he won't mind anything. Especially from the ladies 8D He might get a little weirded out by guys being overly friendly. He'll get up close and personal, though for the fun and kicks.
[Fighting] Go ahead and take him on! He won't mind 8D He's a pretty tough and agile fighter. In fact he might just run around and slip away and dodge to annoy the person before actually getting serious and fighting back.
[Other Facts]
His birthday is September, though no specific date. ...I shall say September 21.
Zidane's a flirt, but he also loves Garnet :\ So he probably won't be looking into non-canon relationships any time soon.
In terms of his Trance ability, Zidane probably won’t go into Trance mode that much. I only imagine it happening if he is fighting someone really powerful and/or he gets super pissed off or the need to protect someone overwhelms him. Last resort would be if his life was in danger.
