Hawk's eye!

A friend who responded in time before the Mineral and Jewlery Fair told me her favorite gem was "blue tiger's eye."  So I texted a Polish friend while waiting outdoors for the bus in very strong winds, asking what "tiger's eye" is in Polish.  He responded with "oko tygrysa."  For whatever stupid reason, I forgot to ask about "blue ( Read more... )

Heh, yes. The card is very pretty! I'm going to see if I can buy one just for myself. >_> I have a bad habit of keeping cards or buying extras so I can keep one..

I used to collect rocks as a kid up till maybe college age or so. They had gem shows in So Cal every year or so. You could buy them in old Los Angeles, too (Olvera Street AKA El Pueblo de Los Angeles). I only remember the brown tigereye. I think I still have one and it's some kind of quartz, right?

I've always liked the star sapphire, but I never owned one.

My folks bought me a rock polisher for my birthday. Wow, it takes over a week to polish the stones and to a 12-year-old it seemed like forever with the little electric motor running in the garage. I kind of lost my interest in that, actually.
