I have issues with getting carried away with things. I made myself some lip balm over the summer. I'm starting to run low on in since I use it almost obsessively because it works really well and sits next to my bed/workspace (same thing, really). Deciding I need to make myself more, I come across the idea that I could make lip balm for friends too ( Read more... )

1. If you are using herbs/essential oils you aren't familiar with, you should definitely do some research into how safe they are for topical use, whether they can cause skin irritation, and what dilutions they work best at/are non-irritating at, if you haven't already. Says the person with easily triggered skin allergies.

2. Have you checked out Etsy? If the Farmer's Market doesn't work out/is too much hassle/you have stuff left, you could probably set up an Etsy stall pretty easily and sell stuff there (I think it's a $.10 fee per list item)

3. This is an awesome hobby!

1)I have done oodles of research on the different herbs and oils and their uses before I went around buying stuff--the cites/book I used didn't prepare me for the strengths of the scents properly though... I'm going to try dilutiong the 2 problem oils, as that has been commented on by a few people who say even a drop or two might be too strong--I'm hoping that will make them usable. But reasearch time has been at least 3 times that of what I've spent on homework these past 2 weeks--which, sadly, isn't saying too much, but is at least 7 to 10 hours of research ( ... )

I'd be happy to test hand lotion if you're making it :) I have no allergies to speak of, so if it messes me up you definitely know not to sell it to people.

not making hand lotion, but I do have a salve for improved circulation and another one for dry skin?
