Celebrities on Twitter: Guidelines for us Mere Mortals

Celebrities have Twitter accounts. Everybody knows this, but in recent days it's come to my attention that many people cannot handle this information. You probably don't think you're one of those people. Maybe you're not. But what if you are?

This is why, although I do have a Twitter account, I hardly ever use it. Mostly I use it to check snow levels or breaking news.

I hate the way Twitter promotes what is essentially stalkerish behaviour. Besides there is something in me that rebels deeply against the fact that you
can't have decent conversation because of the limited amount of words. I am not
saying it is not useful at times to assess the mood of the general public on important issues but for me it is a lot of hot poinless air that mostly caters for people's narcissistic tendencies.

Plus Twitter is part of the Prism program, so it is likely that I will end up deleting my account eventually.

ETA: great sensible post though. I wish everybody would follow your advice.

Thank you. Fandom's great... for the fans. But imagine how weird it must be to have people who you don't know messaging you telling you they love you, with your photo as their profile image, your name as part of their handle, and so forth. It's just bizarre. It's no wonder a lot of public figures don't interact with fans on Twitter.

And since I posted a link to this on Twitter, I've noticed that several of the people who have favourited and/or retweeted this are the worst offenders.
