Elwood's Birthday...and other news...

Elwood, et al, will be surgically removed on Thur., Nov. 29th. It's official. Except for the standard blood work and assorted reams of paperwork I'll be going into surgery the morning of 29.11 And the crowd says, Amen and get the fuck out.

BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR THE ELWOOD AND HIS HAMPSTERETTES!

Several days ago a woman came into the shop and asked if we were hiring office help. I said, not that I know of, but go ahead and fill out an application, please. She did. Turns out she has more and better skills in the auto repair industry than I do, so on the sly a day or so later, I say to the italian...

You know, you should interview this chick. Look at all these skills she's got, look how much she could do for you oh and by the way I can go to the lab full time and have a much better future and thanks I have to be off 6-8 weeks after the surgery and there is enough time to train her in my paperwork and spreadsheets before my medical LOA so, hey, wouldn't that be groovy if it worked out?

The italian bit. Interviewed her this afternoon. Likes her well enough but told her there were no guarantees because he had to be sure I'd have a FT job at the lab after my surgery because I was priority, and he'd not let me be without a job. Awwwww. *humps the italian*

So I come home tonight and call Lizard. I say, two questions. I need answers. One, do you want me FT at the lab? Yes, she says. Two, if I go off and have this surgery and am incapacitated for 6-8 weeks and thus cannot return until January, will I still have a FT position at the lab? Yes, she says. I say, ok, you got me.

Now, the two most important aspects of the lab are a securable future (retirement, stock options, insurance, disability, increment raises, etc.) in an international company and...drum roll...a career. Wow. 40 and just finding a career...I think I've spent too much soul time with my Da. *laughs* A fucking career in science...whoda thunk that would ever happen. but I am excited. So fucking excited. Now I can expand my education and work in a setting that I find highly fascinating. Wow. There's hope for me yet!

So. Yeah. Great things are happening over here and it seems to me that I am getting everything I've ever wanted for a long, long time. Energy is an interesting beast, and I think I'm in love with it on some level. Nothing better for a lesson to drive home than a little bit of proof.

The Hank
