I could go on and on here, but...

Jan 21, 2006 15:11

a lot of the films I wanted to add just weren't there.

Anyway, since a lot of my friends are posting favorite films with these clever pic links to Amazon, and I had an inclination to kill time, I thought I'd go ahead and post a partial list too.

Dude, JFK and Spinal Tap aren't the only favorites I didn't recall. But, knowing this in advance, you see I wisely called this my "partial" list.

Oh, God it's good. I'm not into techno per se, but when I heard that music I was like.. 'Fuck.. I gotta buy it..' ahaha.

I'm not a David Lynch fan really, I don't get the appeal. But still a great list! xxx

I've seen some of those movies =) I think they're all great choices. I see you have one of favorite movies *smiles really big* I LOVE "Juliet of the Spirits." It's my all time favorite. I love Federico Fellini =)

"Kiss Me Deadly" is interesting.

Oooo, "Natrual Born Killers." I like that one a lot =)

"Grapes of Wrath" is a good film, but the book is better. The good parts of the book weren't in the movie and the ending was different.

I want to see "Rashomon," =( I have to wait until Wednesday to see a Kurosawa Akira film =( I'm going to watch "Ikiru" this Wednesday and "Seven Samurai" the following Wednesday =) I look forward to that =) You should watch "Kurutta Ippeji" directed by Kinugasa Teinosuke. That's a very trippy film. I barely got some sort of meaning out of that movie @_@ And "Tokyo Story" directed by Ozu Ysujiro. It's kinda sad to see how ungrateful children can be to their parents ... =( That's why I try to call my mom at least once a day >.<

This may be a shock to hear but ... I've never seen "Fantasia" >.

Amazing. I really thought everyone had seen Fantasia, which I do have. But, wow, do I envy you for your Japanese film class. Thanks to you telling me about it, I do hope to see that silent avant garde classic Kurutta Ippeji. Before you mentioned it, I had never even heard of it, but all I've read about it since then, is very interesting. As for Seven Samurai, I saw that so long ago that all I can remember is that it was great and inspired The Magnificent Seven. Akira Kurosawa is a master film maker! When I was a young dude, I proudly held a mini Kurosawa Film Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Playhouse in Vancouver, before becoming a boy wonder concert promoter across Canada and the Pacific NorthWest. You'll enjoy his films. And, btw, I also loved reading Steinbeck's books, despite later disagreeing with some of his politics and Vietnam War stance.

Oh, you shouldn't envy me. There's nothing to envy about me ;) even if it's for the class I'm taking. I'm not worthy of it =)

That's really awesome that you held a mini Kurosawa Film Festival in Canada =) I know I'll enjoy his films =) I'm sure you'll like "Kurutta Ippeji."

Steinbeck's books are good =) The only other book I've read by him is "In Dubious Battle." It's okay. But I love Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World." heh heh heh Soma! ;)

Okay, so maybe envy is a sin. But, Jessica, I do admire you for all you are doing. Your dedication has all my best wishes and support.

Funny thing about my Kurosawa Film Festival is that we showed maybe four of his films, and all I remember for sure now is Roshomon. It's almost certain we showed Seven Samurai too, but since I was the promoter in charge I was too busy running around taking care of biz to actually just enjoy it. It was a lot of fun tho, and I wish I still had a copy of the poster I made for it. It was one of my more artistic. But, like most my posters, it has only been in my mind's eye now for over 30 years.

I never read In Dubious Battle, but two other Steinbeck books I enjoyed included Tortilla Flats, and East Of Eden which inspired my own writing alot. Sadly, tho, my Catholic high school girl friend tore up that first novel of mine because it was too human, too carnal... And yes, Brave New World is a great read!

Ahhh, I had this wonderful, well-written comment, and LJ ate it in all error's eve.

Great list, but no Kurosawa, Imamura, or Ozu? 8 1/2 is a crucial classic, indeed. Ghost World is also one of my all-time favourites.

Durrr..I missed that one. I have a hard time picking absolute favourites of anything, especially things like movies and records. Movies are a bit easier, though.

You like Italian horror at all? I've always been a bit of a gorehound, but I love, love, love Argento. His movies are tops.

I understand, especially with music where I have favorites I may not hear for years. When someone asks what my favorite recordings are, I honestly reply "I have walls full of them."

Forgive me, but what are some of Argento's movies?
