hey gal... how did u manage to find free hosting newayz? I'm trying to search for my options as well, but so far no such luck as yet. Also I'm new to all these. Mind pointing me in the right direction?

for free hosting, you can search on www.pick-me.net for hosts...there's a huge list of people who put up information about their websites and what they want to host- personal sites, fanlistings, whatever. they usually have a list of requirements...obviously, designing and html skills are huge ones. most will want to see an example of your work, either a screenshot or a completed site uploaded on a free server.

ftp stands for file transfer protocol. it's basically what allows you to transfer files fast and easily over the net. some hosts make it a requirement to know ftp; others are willing to teach. all you'd need to do is get an ftp client from download.com. using it is pretty simple; i can help if you want :).

Thanks so much for the information. It definitely helped. I'm trying my hand at web designing too, having never done it before. But I'm stuck trying to find a host and all. I got a bit confused in the midst as well, about hosting and domain registration and all. *gags*

from where? in this case you'd be transferring files from a folder on your computer to your host's server.

your options are free, adless space on someone else's server, or registering your own domain and shelling out a certain fee every month for your own server. which may be pretty costly and which is why in 6 years of webdesign i have yet to get my own domain :P.
