“You are not calling to check on the kids again!” I hear behind me as I start to dial the number for home. I sigh as Greg reaches around me to take the phone out of my hand and I watch as he puts it back down on the table. He pulls me back against him and just holds me resting his hands against my slightly pregnant stomach. I know he thinks I am crazy but I had a right to worry they are my babies and I had never left the youngest three alone over night before. Not that I had spent more than a night or two away from the older two before either.
“You are supposed to be relaxing and paying attention to me, not worrying about the kids who are perfectly fine. I am sure between Wilson, your cousin Lizzy and her husband Phillip that they can handle it.” Greg says in my ear in between kissing my neck and gently nipping at my earlobe. “Besides I just called fifteen minutes ago and they are all fine.” I laugh, I must admit that I am worst but he is almost as bad as I am worry about the kids. I relax I know that they are in good hands and that nothing will happen.
I turn around in his arms to look at him, thinking how much he hasn’t really changed since the day that I met him. He is still the same bastard with a hidden heart of gold that he was back then, just with a little more bite to his words. It still amazes me how he can be so crass and harsh to everyone around him but with me and the children he is so kind and gentle. I am so luck to have found him. So many people don’t get to find their other half and I was lucky enough to find mine at fifteen. “I love you.” I tell him as I look into his eyes.
“I love you to my little wombat.” He tells me and I laugh. I don’t think he will ever stop calling me wombat. He has been calling me wombat since our son Gregory was a newborn baby. He started because he said that I was a cute, little, cuddly, Australian and I would carry Gregory around in a baby sling everywhere, he said that I was just like a wombat with its cub.
I look around the room and think for a minute. The last time we were without kids for an entire week was before we had Gregory. It is too quiet. “So what exactly do you do with no kids around for a week?” I ask with a smirk on my face. Greg just gives me a look before pushing me on the bed. “Well you’re a smart boy I am sure that you can think of something.” He tells me as he lies down next to me.
