Should this really be necessary?

This is the text to the sign I am going to affix to my backyard gate tonight when I get home:

"PLEASE STOP FEEDING MY DOG. IT IS MAKING HIM SICK. THANK YOU."

Seriously, people--what the eff goes on in people's brains?

I suspect certain neighbors feed my dog when she's outside. It would explain why she runs to them so joyfully when she sees them on the street.

Nothing. That's what goes on in people's brains sometimes.

I think the sign is a good idea. I hope it helps. It's sad to say, but I worry that the people who are so clueless that they think giving food to a dog they don't know is a good idea will also be so clueless that they think the sign doesn't apply to them. If that's the case, you can still use the sign to beat them over the head.

If it's the same woman who was also feeding my neighbor's dog, I'm afraid you may be right. Evidently, she's kind of nuts--one time, she opened up my neighbor's back gate, walked into the back yard, sat down on their back porch, and picked up their dog, Sammy, and held him up to her face. Whereupon he promptly bit her. My neighbor came out when she heard yelling and this woman was screaming, "Your dog bit me!" My neighbor, god bless her, apparently just folded her arms and said, "Yeah, well, that's what a dog's supposed to do when a stranger tresspasses on your property. Now get off my porch!"

So, yeah, I give the sign a 50/50 chance. But it's worth a shot.

Not that giving your neighbor's dog food is ever a good idea or anything but, you have to admit, it is very hard to deny Mr. Henry anything. I think a DO NOT FEED THE BEAST sign is absolutely necessary to reinforce that even though he is looking at you like he will absolutely perish without the food you have in your hand he really, really should not be given the food in your hand.

Especially when it is a Milkbone and he is LACTOSE INTOLERANT. Sigh.

But yes, you're right, he does make it difficult NOT to give him treats.

And hey, welcome back to the Internets, lady!
