Me too

Sorry, I know this question gets asked over and over, and I should have just taken notes from what people said last time, but what do people use for wireless Internet service at home? Any advice welcome; thanks in advance.

I just have Comcast cable. I'm sure there is something cheaper though.

I use Cavalier DSL. Don't know if they offer wireless, but they probably do.

Check with Little Shop of Hardware, on the corner of Keswick and 33rd.

The wireless part is hardware you buy, independently of ISP.

yep - your language confused me too. There's a router antenna thingys to install that speak to the ws card in your 'puter. Dingo's back around the 14th, but you can probably call Lil Shop/Hampden Wireless to do a site survey on yr house & test for the signal (located on top of the ol'folks home @ 41st & Elm). $25ish/month + the router equipment that they set you up with if you don't have it already. You are in likely easy range (unless there's a Big Tree, like I've got) http://littleshopofhardware.com/

I am such a moron when it comes to stuff techy; thanks. Do you need to have a working landline phone for that?

phone for DSL - that's a version of a phone line. Not for straightup ws. which, if you don't secure/firewall/passed protect yr connection can also suffer from surfing traffic, not to mention making yr your personal info vulnerable.... Basically, when you sign up with Hamp WS, you're getting permission to ride on their large signal network, in a secured fashion.

I have Comcast, and initially asked for their wireless service, but after a solid month of dicking around with them on the phone not getting it right, I just returned their wireless router and bought an Apple Airport Base-station. It rocks, because you just plug it in to the Internet line, open up the panel on the ole lap top, and it basically sets itself up.

I pledge allegiance to Apple.

We use Verizon & bundle it in with our cheap ass landline phone package (no long distance, basically just a phone that rings.) We've never had any problems.

Yeah, I know people who hate Verizon's service, but then I have three friends who recommended it. So confusing!

Or maybe not so much confusing as much as an indicator that it's all a crapshoot. Most ISPs are probably fine, but most will also be late coming to your house to deliver your wireless equipment or (or will mail it to you quickly but with ridiculously unclear directions).

I use comcast for my internet and got my wireless equipment through them. When I first joined up with them, I still had my ancient laptop; it took three different techs on three different visits to my house to get it working. When I upgraded to my new laptop, it took a 5-minute phone call to get it up and running. So I hated them and then loved them.
