I am a horrid baker, as far as cookies pies and cakes are concerned.

I can cook amazing chicken pot pies, and sheppards pies, and stuff liek that, but the desserts throw me.

What should I learn to bake? And what are good comfort foods to learn to make from scratch? I miss cooking for people, it relaxes me. Ideas?
