Also, the logic behind the repeating what they're doing thing (not that you asked) is that the child then feels that you are trusting their choices. It is important to review all the things because it shows you see they are doing what they are doing and accepting it. It helps them feel more confident in their choices as well as diminishes the beliefs to define as "good" or "bad" which eventually moves into making choices for the sake of making choices, not to obtain a reaction/attention for negative behavior. It is still important to interrupt any behavior that is harmful to people or property. Even when it is really uncomfortable, it is important to still do the repeating to help. They stop thinking they are just getting away with it and know you see what they are doing. The difficult part then becomes, you have to see what they are doing all the time. Thanks, Holly! That makes a lot of sense. I'll have to check that book out. I need all the help I can get. I felt like we had a breakthrough this week, though, so that's good! I haven't been doing the stuff he says 100% because I forget, but I've been trying, and at first it seemed like he was worse, but the last couple of days have had some really good moments. Thanks for commenting and explaining! Yes, let's be boring together! Haha
