Exciting business

Try using Potrait of the Young Artist as a precursor to Ulysses. That's how it clicked for me, rereading one and then immediatly having (yet another) go at the other. Once I'd read Ulysesses a couple times, Finnegan's followed reasonably easily. Check out Becket's Dreams of Fair to Middling Women too.

Whether writing well needs understanding Joyce is a different debate. :-)

Well, I agree that you don't need to understand Joyce in order to write well. I just want to be able to use the english language as artfully as he. The way he just bends and flexes it to his will is amazing to me.

Ah, to be able to effectively express all that goes on in my head...
