I signed up for a Facebook account, on the grounds that all the cool kids have one, so if I get one that'll serve to drive down the average coolness of the cool kids, by association ( Read more... )

For a long time I had an account under a fake name so that I could play Dungeons & Dragons Tiny Adventures without anyone knowing I was there. I eventually changed it to my real name and almost instantly had the same thing happen.

One of the semi-recent additions to Facebook is the ability, when you friend someone, to 'recommend' people who are already your 'friend' to that new friend. Which is what aaangyl did.

I think it goes off of email address plus name, and it also does it by friend-of-friend suggestions.

Most of what they do could be done by, say, LJ, as LJ has the info already.
