This weekend was another bike trip. This time I went out to the west along around the mountains and then rode south along the shore of Tai Lake (太湖)
The first place I went was to Turtle Head park. Its not worth the outrageous entry ticket but it is nice enough if you have a park card like me. When I got there I paid for a ticket to allow me to ride my bike inside the park then I rode down to the lake and got onto a boat to go to this island.
To tell the truth I only go to the park to ride the boat. Its pretty touristy and there are not many quiet places. This is me in the boat.
Next I rode south along the shore and through some tea plantations, orange groves, and some small villages until I stopped at a fishing village.
The village had some very noisy geese.
They also had many strange ducks.
We tried to find someone in the village who could take us out on one of their boats to go fishing or to an island for a picnic. Unfortunately when Ashley and Judy went to check the house boats all they could find was a cat. If you are wondering yes, Chinese cats only understand Chinese. They don't respond to 'Hey!' or 'come here cat' or 'Kitty!'. But they will respond to 'mao mao' (猫猫)
I wished I had found this village a week earlier. Eventually the fisherman came back and we talked to them about taking us out for a trip or out fishing with them. They told us that they would be happy to do it but the fishing season will be over September 30th. I have class until October 1st so it looks like unless I can find a way to get out of my responsibilities I might not have the chance to experience China's deadliest catch
