A little help from pic collectors

* nudges rdyfrdeAll right, I had this great and growing collection of Hansi pics, including group shots with BG and D&W, but as I googled thousands of websites, a problem kept coming up--duplicates! I almost lost count correcting the last duplicate I found, somewhere in the 100's having to rename all the way up to 200...? How do you do it? How do you ( Read more... )

I group them based on what is in the picture. For example any pictures that feature 1-2 other BG members with Hansi, I put them in a folder called "2-3 members". If they are of the whole band, then they go in a folder called "band pics". The D&W pics are in their own folder. The pics of Hansi by himself are seperated out into two categories: live and offstage. The live ones are further seperated out into what concert they are from (ie Wacken) if I know. If not, then they go into another folder called "unknown show".

Additionally I seperate them out in photobucket as well with the subfolder system it has. It's set up just like the folders on my computer are. That way if they are grouped the same, you can spot duplicates easier without having to sort through 100s of photos at a time.

Yeah that's a whole mess of folders to set up but in the long run it has helped me weed out the duplicates. I think I have about 90 sub-folders in my main Blind Guardian folder.

Hey, I have an idea to make it an easier name, instead of the "2-3" thing, why not say "group" for more than one and "band" for all four like you said, I think that's what I'll do

That works too. You don't have to use my folder names, I was just giving them as examples :)

Oh one more thing, I never change the name of the pics when I copy to them to my hard drive. That way if I download the same pic twice from the same website, it should alert me when I try to put it in the Blind Guardian folder that it's a duplicate. Though you might run into websites that name their pics the same as other websites, in that case I just add a number or letter to the picture name :)
