Indian in the Cupboard and sequels by Lynne Reid Banks.

Wrinkle in Time and sequels by Madeline L'Engle

Also, I want to thank you for including Lloyd Alexander - few works are dearer to my heart than the Chronicles of Prydain.

I always liked Indian in the Cupboard, and there are some other good books by Banks as well. A teacher read the first one to the class, back in the mists of time... but I remember thinking that the series kept going longer than it should have. I think there are even a few more recent books that I haven't read. I'll have to check them out. :)

Wrinkle in Time, another favorite! :) Ooh, for some reason that reminds me that I wanted to put Phantom Tollbooth on the list...

Indeed! The Prydain books are right up at the top of my favorite series list as well. :) It's a crowded list, but those are excellent. I really enjoyed a several of Alexander's other books as well (I think he may even be writing still, he's prolific), but I don't know if it's possible to beat those early Taran books.

Thanks!

Lloyd Alexander passed away in 2007, a few months before Madeline L'Engle. His last published book according to Wikipedia was in 2007.

You and your looking stuff up and being accurate...

Ah, didn't know about L'Engle either, sad.

Redwall, Mattimeo, and Mossflower when he is old. They were written to read out loud.

The Franklin series and the Magic School Bus are big ones for David right now.

Hm, never thought about reading the Redwall books out loud, interesting. :) Don't think I could get through the entire expanding series, but those three were excellent.

Seth loves the Magic School bus books, but there are so many knock-offs now it's hard to find the original good ones. :P The only Franklin book we have is in French, but it was well received enough. :)

Thanks!

Trumpet of the Swan and Charlotte's Web have gone over well here. AS a child, my father used to read us the Oz books over and over again.

My Dad read aloud the original Peter Pan to me when I was 5 or 6. It's on my list to read to DAT. I also remember loving being read the Swiss Family Robinson.

We had a big adaptation of Peter Pan that I liked when I was little, but then I found the real one a bit harsh when I read it mayself. I'm planning to reread it and see what I think now. :)

Wow, Swiss Family Robinson, your family must have had good reading muscles. :) Long book. I did really like it though.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is actually quite the good book series and is made for young readers.

Also the "Warriors" series which is about a group of cats is quite good too.
