They're at the Beach now. happiest_mask July 24 2008, 03:16:22 UTC
The sun was shining brightly. Mask sighed as he laid down the picnic basket and spread a couple blankets down on the sand for himself and Weavile.

But he did not sit down, he instead trotted over the the water with Miruto in her bottle and pried open the cork.

"Ok, little dear," he cooed, "Stay close now, I don't want you getting into any trouble. Ionia will play with you though!" he told the baby.

"Hey," he called over his shoulder, "Weavile, why don't you show us some of your tricks?"

"Yes, of course," Weavile snorted as he removed his shoes, socks, and rolled up his pant legs. Wading into the water, he glanced over at the girls. As he narrowed his eyes, he focused on the water. Cupping some water into each hand, he gave an icy blow on each and they quickly froze into small sculptures, one of Ionia and one of Miruto. His ears twitched slightly, not quite being used to holding the ice for such a a long time. After he figured the girls had seen enough, he let the water melt and pour out of his hands.

"And then how about..." he mumbled to himself as he placed his hands together and collected more water. With another breath, the water froze into a larger statue of Mask holding a tray of cookies. "And one of Auntie Mask as well," he wearily grinned, the effects of using his powers in ginjinka form slowly taking their toll.

Mask smirked devilishly at Weavile, "Getting tired there, eh?" he elbowed the other man lightly. He chuckled while he watched the two children light up with excitement at the ice tricks. It made him wish he had them... magical powers and such.

"Care for a dip, anyone?" he asked enthusiastically as he rolled up his own pants and waded into the water.

That trick was just as impressive as it had been the first time around; Ionia gasped with awe at the pretty statues Weavile made. She let out a delighted giggle at the final sculpture, however -- look, it was Auntie Mask! And he had cookies! Too bad ice-cookies weren't as good as real cookies. (Maybe. Ionia had never had ice cookies before. Maybe they did taste more like cookies than ice!)

"Ionia loves Uncle Weavile's magic!" She clapped her hands in delight. Just how did he do it? Unless... Uncle Weavile was using PK Freeze! Uncle Weavile was psychic just like Mommy and Auntie Kumatora! Of course... it all made sense! He was family now, after all, so psychic-ness must have run in the family. Mystery: solved.

Ionia was far too caught up in her own theories and thrills to notice Weavile's fatigue; she took the counselor's hand and tugged gently. "Great idea, Auntie Mask! Uncle Weavile! Come swim with Ionia and Miruto and Auntie!"

...Hmm. It was true that Mommy needed to sleep and eat, but Ionia didn't know about this baby thing. Lucas had not grown at all for as long as Ionia had known him, and she hadn't seen any photographs or anything of when he was young. She knew she had never been a baby. She had been a seed once, sure, but once she'd been plucked from the ground she was the same size as any other blue Pikmin, whether they were new like her or had been flowers forever. She could run and swim and work, just like any other Pikmin. Eventually, her leaf would change into a bud and then she'd become a flower, too, but as far as Ionia knew that cycle would keep resetting itself indefinitely.

So... using that logic, maybe Auntie Mask was wrong and Ionia didn't have a life cycle! That would mean Ionia would live forever -- like a great fairy! The thought was one that cheered her immensely; that puzzled look gave way to a grin. "Okay, Auntie Mask. Ionia understands now!"

Mask chuckled, assuming his cover up had been a success, "Good, good, we're almost there, look!"

He pointed off the shore, past a trail of large, flat rocks that made a path to a cave off shore.

"We just need to walk this course and we'll be there in no time!" he exclaimed as he dipped Miruto in the water and wet her skin. the Zora squeaked happily.

Weavile had to contain his sigh at Mask's makeshift explanation of life and death. Although Ionia claimed she understood, the pokemon counselor found it hard to believe. It seemed he would have to talk to Mask later about how better to assess such a situation, but for now, the topic faded off.

Looking at where Mask pointed, Weavile questioned, "How long do you suppose it will take?" Weavile wasn't so sure he trusted Mask's directions. Perhaps he WAS being a 'fuddy-duddy' as Mask had put it, but Weavile stood by his 'rather safe than sorry' outlook.

Ionia couldn't wait to see a for-real live-actual fairy! She hoped that it would be willing to use its super-special limitless PSI -- especially if it was as pretty as Uncle Weavile's statues had been! She was curious about the difference between fairy PSI and Mommy's ordinary limit-having PSI.

"Don't worry, Uncle Weavile, it doesn't look very far to Ionia! It will not take long if we hurry!" She backed up her reassurance by taking Weavile's hand and giving a small tug. "But we won't hurry too much because Auntie Mask has to carry Miruto."

With a smirk, Weavile watched the smaller fairies flit about. He tentatively held out his hand, wondering if any would actually land. They were quite lovely, the way they flew about so gracefully. It was a relaxing and beautiful sight, to say the least.

Then the Great Fairy mentioned the gender titles. Weavile started to chuckle, then quickly covered it with a soft cough. He didn't want to be the one to tell the fairy that Ionia's mother figure was male, it would only lead to an even more, possibly awkward, conversation. Though somehow, he had a feeling they were heading that way anyway.

Religion and the idea of a higher power were both foreign concepts to Ionia. The Great Fairy was met with a puzzled stare.

"...Ionia's mommy is not a goddess. He did not make the land or sky. But he is not a fairy, because he has limits." See, she was learning! Though... maybe this was just a Hyrule-only thing. Yeah... that made sense. "So... Auntie Mask lives in this land. That means his mommy is three goddesses. And his mommy is also Mistress Great Fairy's mommy... that means..." That meant a zillion things! That meant that the Great Fairy was Ionia's auntie too, and that maybe Auntie Mask was also a Great Fairy, and if fairies were the Great Fairy's children then that made Miruto a fairy too and...

...Families were very confusing.

Mask sighed.

"No, no, dear," he patted her shoulder, "My mother is a normal, human woman. The Goddesses are the mothers of the Great Fairies, and my ancestors," he tried to explain.

"The Goddesses are the first mothers of everything. But we all now are the very far down descendants of them," he summarized.

"The Goddesses are in no way my mothers," he chuckled.

Listening to Ionia's reasoning, Weavile snickered a bit. Ah, the inner workings of a young mind... But when Mask sighed and tried to explain the creation of Hyrule, that was just the icing on the cake.

He patted Ionia on the head. "It's alright if you don't understand," Weavile gave her an understanding smile. No doubt she would go back and ask plenty of questions to Lucas and Jeff tonight. It almost made Weavile feel bad for the boys. Almost.
