As far as the woman on fb, I'd say she just bought into the delusion that if you play by sexist rules and repeat enough of their talking points, you won't get as shit on. Which, of course, is bullshit, but how the system is set up.

Horror isn't even a progressive genre to begin with; this is the genre that gave us the "Have sex and die" rule. For every Twilight Zone episode there's a Friday the 13th.

Horror can be as progressive as any genre. But it is going to be influenced by its time, not least because of the contemporary fears it reflects. You can kind of say the same about any other genre.
