Now it's no secret that I love horror movies and literature. With a deep and abiding passion. I've been spending the last few months on a glorious Clive Barker bender. I remember the grown-up feeling and glee I felt when I was finally allowed to watch scary movies with Dad, and when Mom gave me H. P. Lovecraft and Poe to read when I'd gone through ( Read more... )

wtf is this shit, feeding my misanthropy, media, pro-choice, gender, fucked up, justice, feminism, zombies, books

If they could understand irony, they wouldn't be wingnuts/fascists/religio-whackjobs.

Have you read Robert Altemeyer's work on authoritarianism yet? Excellent stuff, even if I find his writing style a little irritating.

Oh my jesus fucking christ. I think I'd rather watch "Killer Klowns in Outer Space" than that fucking movie.

I'd watch "Killer Klowns" for fun, but I do love me some bad movies.

No, see, I'm terrified of clowns, but the thought of the society this movie would produce terrifies me even more. Plus, some bitch on my fb posted about that guy who is harrassing his ex with that billboard, going "Women get a say on abortion, why not men?" When I challenged her she DELETED MY COMMENT. Starting to REALLY DISLIKE other women right now.

Ahh, in that case, I can understand. I'd rather watch an anthill than that movie myself.

As far as the woman on fb, I'd say she just bought into the delusion that if you play by sexist rules and repeat enough of their talking points, you won't get as shit on. Which, of course, is bullshit, but how the system is set up.

That guy with the billboard is such an asshole I don't even.

I am afraid of that movie. Being forced to breed against my will? No thank you.

ETERNALLY. IN HELL. *scary music*

The anti-choicers really make all the points against themselves just by being honest.

That movie sounds really fucking stupid and anvilicious. And I've seen Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter at least 3 times, so I know what "stupid and anvilicious" looks like.

Horror isn't even a progressive genre to begin with; this is the genre that gave us the "Have sex and die" rule. For every Twilight Zone episode there's a Friday the 13th.

I actually own Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter.

Horror can be as progressive as any genre. But it is going to be influenced by its time, not least because of the contemporary fears it reflects. You can kind of say the same about any other genre.
